"I'm not terribly interested in active forums"
Well, that's embarassing.
I completely misunderstood the purpose of a Zen rating. I thought we were trying to develop an active anime community here on Rubberslug.

Including at least the whole sentence in quotes, if not sentences around it, above it, and below it would be more appropriate. It's just the plain truth that there is no wizard behind the curtain except me. (I am indebted to the mods though, for helping minimize the smacktard population.) If something needs to be written, I have to write it line by line. I *like* doing this and I'm not complaining, but if it doesn't get used, that's time wasted. Even worse, it's time I could have spent making something you *did* want to see.
The best example would be featured gallery images. I'm about to do those now for the first time in about a month. They're quite tedious to make and it takes about two hours to do a dozen. I am starting to really dislike making these. However, the concept is really popular. From a maintenance standpoint, I'd love to scrap these. But that would be a little selfish of me. Even worse, people would think that I don't like them. Not true. I like seeing feature gallery requests in my mailbox and talking to new members.
Sometimes I make things that I think are great ideas but no one else cares about. Other times I make things that I don't personally find interesting but many, many other people do. I'm more interested in writing things other people like, even if I don't see the point.
oh. I dunno. I like message boards. I would blah people's heads off, given the chance. Maybe people don't even view this as a place to talk. I always find myself on other message boards yelling "CELS!!!!" in strangers' faces.
Jason, maybe you could provide us templates so we can make our own featured gallery logo. You could specify font size/type that we have to use, give us a blank frame to work with, and guidelines to follow. Sure, not everyone would go for it, but it might save you a lot of time.
Just a thought ^^

Well, I lurked around the forums for the first few weeks after they were created but, um, nothing was happening on them. ^^; So then I wandered away for a while, the school year happened, and now I'm bored during summer and hey! The RS forums have people! *g*
I think if you really wanted to get people to the forums, you'd offer some sort of prize for participation. The zen ratings are a big step toward this, as many people like to watch their numbers rise in *any* situation. You could also try to make the influence of the forum goers common knowledge on the site. Have front page announcements say things like "Forum user noisywalrus suggested blah blah blah, so here is a trial run of the new feature!" Or... something. Yes.
