Rubberslug Forum Users/Readers --report
Thanks. With a weekly series focus perhaps an interested collector could provide an introductory para to the series and then others could take the time to introduce main and auxilliary characters from the series - through cels. It would make it quite fun.
Unfortunately of neccessity it will be spoiler laden.
I think keeping the forum topics diverse yet simple will lead to more involvment by other members. Also many collectors on the site have a limited exposure to different, I hate to use the term "non main stream" anime. Some people only see whats on cartoon network, myself included. Maybe a forum question that allows members to talk about there fav series, whats it about, why they like it, and so on will help to get more people in the forum. All in all we all must remember that some people are new to the site, once again me, others are not interested in the forum, and others are just shy. Well thats my two cents anyway.
About the "series focus" question:
I like this and it's been my secret wish for a number of years. I think now's probably where I should bring up collaborative galleries. For a long time I've wanted to be able to allow multiple people to upload to a shared gallery.
However, I do not yet have the capability to manage multiple users for the same gallery. I worked on the problem a little this week. This will basically be an extension of the "shop" section (a section that will allow multiple people to control one gallery but only have control over their items).
For now -- and this is temporary -- do you think we can all be on our best behavior to share one separate account that people can upload their cels to? Here's how it would work before we get a chance to do it for real (i.e. - each person controls their own stuff)
- We announce a series/theme. Say, Cardcaptor Sakura. Or Miyazaki movies. Or catgirls.
- Everyone who is interested e-mails me for the password for this gallery so I can keep track of who has it.
- Everyone with the password can upload a few cels into this shared gallery to create community interest in the series.
- Everyone who uploads something can, optionally, append a little bit to the about page about themselves and their collections.
- The downside is one really antisocial person can delete everyone's shared contributions. *But* I think that we're a tightknit enough community of collectors that no one will do this. Besides, I have logs and can track people down. If the IP of the mass deleter matches the IP of a member on this site, it's a life ban. ^_^
It would be totally based on the honor system. But I don't believe anyone would go out of their way to wreck a fun little thing like this.
I plan to use the Magic Lantern galleries I created a while ago for this. Heck, we can even have guest designers come in and design a gallery with that theme in mind (as E was suggesting earlier about his Gunm gallery).
Would this work? I bet it would be fun.
I think these are all great suggestions for bringing more people into the forum, especially the community gallery devoted to a series or character. Could we also stipulate that there be a more in depth description other than "I love his expression in this" or "sooo cute!"? (I'm guilty of it too) Something that would really explain the series or what the character means to the series. I visit galleries with series I'm unfamiliar with and I want to understand why certain characters/series inspire others to collect them.
I for one do not mind spoilers in the least. I find that no matter how well you describe any thing in anime, it just doesn't compare to seeing it for yourself.
And to you shy folks out there, I think there's always someone out there ready to answer your posts. :)
