Rubberslug Forum Users/Readers --report
I think that there might be a lot of people that aren't aware of this forum. Hell, I never visited it until around a month or so ago...
I'm not too sure how this forum rates in relation to other cel collecting forums. I know that I visit the Animanga forum at least once a day because it is one place where people dump off cels. If you look at the traffic on the Animanga forum, it is mostly sales related. Every once and a while people will start "Show Me" thread or posts to ask a question, but that?s about all the activity to be seen?
I'm not too sure what you can do to get more participation. I think that while a lot of collectors may use the site, only a few may want to be a member of the community here.
I think the kinds of things that people should be more willing to ask about in this forum should relate to gallery stuff. This is probably one of the best places for people to get feedback on the layout of their galleries. I think the "How best to split a series?" thread that Gabriel started is a good example of this?
So far as the tech stuff goes, I think that it has its place. I think the site developers need to get as many ad-hoc testers as possible when playing with new site functions. I?m sure that you guys are doing all the development in your spare time, so getting any kind of help that you can will be beneficial to the site overall. Also, as users of the site, we should be able to voice suggestions and complaints?
I think part of the reason is that these forums are not very active - and this is its own vicious circle where a lack of activity causes people to not check the forums regularly, which causes even less activity and so on. Possibly if people make an effort to post more, this will inspire lurkers to post themselves. I'm sure there are a number of users and visitors that love to talk cels, but might see these forums as just a place to talk strictly about the RS site mechanics.
I certainly know that I myself am now checking the forums here once a day since there seems to be a surge in postings. The Zen thing likely helped draw attention to the forums at least. Now we just need to keep it up - I would like very much to see this an active cels forum that isn't show-specific.
Personally I wouldn't worry about members posting here that much. There are many other forums other people belong to that posting in all of them is problematic. It would be nice to have the time to post in all of the forums I'm on but I just don't have the time any more. The only thing I notice is that there isn't enough cross information from the other forums. The Rs feedback problem posted on Anime-Beta forum comes to mind. Beta members didn't think to check/notify here first.

I check this forum a couple times a day. I broke my rule and visited Animanga yesterday and came back loaded with so much spyware that it's simply not worth it to me to go there ever again. (I have Animanga as a 'restricted site' on my browser settings, and I've got a pop-up stopper running, and yet I still somehow get loaded down with spyware. It's too frustrating!)
So, I would be most pleased if the RS forum grew a bit. Personally, I'd place more posts myself (rather than simply responding to existing ones) if I wasn't quite so shy. I'm always afraid that if I try to start a new thread no one will notice/respond. Is there a support group for forum cowards like me? Or am I the only one?

::waves hand frantically:: Me! Me! I'm shy-girl #2. "Hi my name is Katie, I've been a rubberslug member for over 2 years now and an active lurker, but you wouldn't know it with my handful of posts." ^^;;
It takes me a long time to come out of my shell (though once I do, I can get pretty wild). Sure, I have over 1,100 posts on Beta, but that's with an incredibly active forum with over 2 years under its belt now; plus I think many posts were carried over from Beta's many previous versions. I can't remember when the RS forum was added, but I'm pretty sure it hasn't been that long. I think...
Once more topics come up, I will definitely be tempted to post more often. I'm one of those people though who don't post just to post, or to raise my zen count (ie: the 2 word sentence fragment post or just a smilie), so if I can't think of anything to say I just won't. Also, lot of the past RS topics were technical, hence my lack of participation (heck, I don't even know what a blog is). But the technical posts are understandable, rubberslug is still early in the tweaking stages. Plus, at other times, I just can't think of what to post. ^^;; Posts about fake RS websites, image stealing, and the like are becoming redundant-- don't get me wrong though, I'm very happy to see them vaporized. I guess I'm just a follower more than a leader; once members start to post more topics I'll chime in, and maybe even start one of my own.
Also, if I come up with any ideas for RS, I'll be happy to mention it. ::pokes Jason about the favorite galleries link, or wishlist search:: Just kidding hun! ^_~ I can't thank you enough for all the hardwork you put in for us goobers.
