Do you go for quality or quantity?
And klet there is not need to hate this topic . . . . We all have different and highly subjective definitions on what we consider "quality". No one definition is the universal truth, so again no need to hate it when others do not share your opinion.
Well, you apparently missed the point of my post, because that was it. -_- My point was that no one shares the same definition of quality, and so no one is going to say that there are no quality cels in their collection.
Personally, I hate the topic because of the way that certain collectors seem to think that their collections are much higher quality than everyone else's. I've heard this topic answered in very snooty ways in the past. That's why I hate the question.
Please read my entire post before telling me what I can like and dislike. ^_^ Thank you.
EDIT: Also, quantity does not neccesarily mean "not quality." The fact that this topic in the past has assumed that is what makes me hate it.

oh sorry guys i didnt mean to start a dissagreement here.
i was just curious about how everyone else collects. :)
since im a new collector i wanted to get the long time collector's thoughts(and you guys did help me greatly!).
thanks guys! :)
p.s. i didnt know the topic was already brought up.
could you point me in the direction of it, please?
id like to read all their thoughts too.
thanks! :)
Well this topic came out of obscurity very quickly with Anime-Beta's downtime! Wowsers.
The question is problematic for the reason several people have stated, subjectivity. What is quality? Does expensive mean quality? Does a certain type of composition mean quality? Does a popular character or show mean quality? How about the rarity of the cel? And for that matter, what is quantity. More than 10? More than 100?
I think most people here are actually saying the same thing, that quality is in the eye of the beholder. It is art afterall, and inherently subjective. We all have individual preferences, that's the beauty of the hobby. I don't take it personally if a person prefers a different style of anime than I do, any more than I would take offense to the fact we enjoy different types of music.
Whatever quality may be, I certainly don't think it has anything to do with the number of cels a person owns. Saying quality is #1 priority shouldn't be taken as a slight against quantity, since I think most would agree the two aren't mutually exclusive.
I'd say it comes down to a pretty simple rule that others have already said and said well. Just buy what you like and have fun. *OFF TOPIC* So I guess the line-break function on RS is out, eh? :)

Don't worry, Amy, I don't blame you. ^_^ I've seen the question asked by more experienced collectors who were basically implying that people who don't save up to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on one cel have inferior collections. I seriously doubt you meant it like that. The topic was originally brought up on Anime-beta, which is down at the moment.
The main disagreement was that someone didn't bother to read my entire post, and told me that I shouldn't hate this question for the exact reasons I gave for hating it. 0.o
All in all, when people are first starting collecting, they tend to buy cheaper shots. A lot of people will eventually sell those shots off--I know I have. On the other hand, one of my cheap, not high quality cels (my only Tasuki for Fushigi Yugi) is one I bought when I first started collecting. I got him for a pretty cheap price. He had the second highest number of hits in my gallery for years, and is now sitting at #6. Now, I don't think he's that great a shot, but he still holds a place in my heart. ^_^
EDIT: Megan, yeah, line breaks have been disappearing for a couple of weeks now.
