Do you go for quality or quantity?
Quality. Every sale, offer period, dealer update, personal contact, convention, auction etc, quality is first and foremost in my mind.
In contrast, quantity is just a word and for me, it doesn't really mean much more other than that.

Quality. But it's usually the quality of making me smile that makes me buy it, cheap or painful.
Well said Perv-chan! ^_~
I couldn't have worded it any better.
I think Aernath summed it up for me.
Count me in on quality over quantity!
I still have yet to break my 100th cel and I've been in this crazy game for almost 6 yrs.
>_<
Let me add one tiny argument in favor of quantity. When I'm getting interested in a new series to collect, I'll sometimes bite on a large lot with a wide variety of miscellaneous stuff, so I can take the measure of the studio's approach to its project. ............................ Vapalla and I once bought three inches of Tonde Buurin art, gengas and cels both, and never regretted it. Yes, a lot of arms and eyes and partials, but also a unique animator's-eye view of everything the studio did to put this bizarre series on the screen. ................................ So while I wouldn't recommend buying "every" cel from a given series when it pops up, I do think there's something to be said about getting a critical mass of material, as a means to developing taste and sometimes just for sloppy "cheap new stuff" gratification. ....................... Yeah, I know a gourmet-prepared chicken stir-fry with a big salad is quality stuff and good for me, but there are times when that two double cheeseburgers for $3.33 special just really hits the spot. .................... Heh. Maybe that's why I have so much Tonde Buurin stuff.

^-^ Ah, one of the classic discussions. I never tire of it, yet it always makes me feel like I'm the freak of the cel world. I really don't care about either! Quality, meh, quantity, meh. Whatever. I collect cels because I enjoy owning a production piece of my favourite animation and I get a kick out of the unique factor. No else will ver own that exact cel.
Neither quantity nor quality play any part in that as *any* 1 cel forfills these requirements. My key factor when selecting art is whether or not the character/s is "on model". I've turned down a full set up, opening cel of Nadia because her hair was too long in length and her fringe was too short. The character has got to be right - right shape eyes, correct proportion etc. If it's got that then I don't care if its A grade or D grade or if I have 1 or 1000.
Cel freak, right here! ;-P
