What's in a name?
Would you ever consider naming one of your pets after anime characters?
How about your baby?! err, how about "Superman" for instance?

Bizarre~ 0_o'
Of have you given one of your kids, mates, a nickname?
My daughter runs around calling herself a different anime character every other week (lol)..
I think last week she was "something ninja" somebody or something.. =)
I hope that is not my influence (heh,heh..)
A bit off topic...maybe...but I've always been bugged by those who name their children after enviable characters, be them real of not.
The paramount of my disgust comes from a McDonalds commercial they used to play a couple years ago. It was at the height of the Baseball season, and it talked about how school teachers were having trouble keeping track of kids because they were all named Pedro after the Red Sox pitcher (because their zombie parents have no mind of their own I gathered). Anyway, to solve this the teachers began giving the kids surnames after their favorite McDonalds food. So one Pedro was now Pedro Small Fry, and another Pedro was now Pedro Milkshake, etc etc.
I have no idea why that commercial angers me so, but just sitting here thinking that someone would name their kid after a temporary idol is so ridiculous it borderline hurts. Heh, I'd love to hear the convo between a son and his parents if he was named Pedro after the player.
Son: "Mom, why Pedro?"
Mom: "Well, we named you after a great pitcher for the Red Sox."
Son: "Oh wow, where is he now?"
Mom: "Oh, the jerk jumped ship a while ago. Sorry son. You scamper off now you lil bastard reminder of the past you."

We had this pet-naming theme when I was growing up. My dad wanted a dog he could go to the door and shout, "Hey, Brute!" and have a big dog galumph up to him. Mom convinced him to go with "Brutus". She then decided we needed a kitten -- enter "Ceasar" (Yes, we spelled it wrong on purpose). When a second cat was more or less foisted on us, he was named "Claudius".
Well, all those childhood pets have gone to that place where good pets go (I was devastated when Ceasar died at 22 years of age) so my cat is named "Ceasar Augustus" in memory. He goes by Gus.
And I have a beta who is at least two this summer. I wanted to have a pet-naming theme of my own and Gus was named for an emperor, so...
Since the beta is beautiful, and he knows it (ever see a fish preen? It's pretty funny!) he's Hotohori. Or Hori-fishie.
I don't have children, but I don't think I'd name a child after an anime character. Nicknames would most likely be a different story. ^_^
