What's in a name?

I named my dachshund, 'Pippin' after the clutzy Hobbit from 'Lord of the Rings.'

I've heard of strange names for kids. 'Coca' and Cola' for twin boys for instance.

In our area, we have a lot of SouthEast asian refugees and as part of the assimilation process, they picked up western names. Unfortunatly, they're odd choices. Some of them are, 'Wasp,' 'Guitar,' 'Mainstreet,' 'Famous,' 'Favor,' and more that I forgot. Poor people.

My daughter adopted a kitten she named Lafiel from Crest & Banner of the Stars.

In my work I come across a lot of interesting customer names, Skybright , Lark , Aqua , Purification, Annunciation , Nature , Silk and others. The qwest for being cutting edge goes on.

It reminds me of the guy who went to court to get his name legally changed to None ofthe Above so he could be elected to office. To bad the court rejected the change. the guy could have been President.

My goodness what kind of parents would even consider naming a child ESPN! They should be publicly humiliated using the preverbal tar and feathers. My name was odd enough growing up to make me very sympathetic to the poorly named. While now I can appreciate my name as being really quite cool it was hell being called "Deanna the banana girl" thru elementary school.
But for pets! I too am guilty of the pet naming theme. My fish tank held 3 African Cichlids the blue one was Speed the white one was Trixi and the Yellow and black one was Racer X. My cat was given to me with the name of Tessa, I quickly renamed her Princess Buttercup (the only thing you were allowed to say to her was "As you wish") It turned out to be rather prophetic, I met a great guy a couple of years later with a big tom cat named Fezzik.

A friend of mines friend named her son "Kirin".
~_~"
While she denied naming him after the character in Ranma (she just "thought it up"), I just can't help but think the child will grow up to be an alcoholic...
