What's in a name?

Well, we are all or most of us are named after someone or something. I like the creative side in naming, as long as it doesn't go overboard.

It would be nice to have a somewhat original and cool sounding name..sans the corporate logo's and names of super hero's =)

Teacher taking class attendance:

Susan?
Here!

Matthew?
Present..

Superman?
ah..here..sir.

For the next 30 minutes the teacher fights to control the screaming pandemonium that has erupted in the classroom.. Security is called.. students have collapsed and fallen out of their seats, from literally laughing too hard.

Superman decides to call himself by his "middle name" from now on.. "Darth Vader".

My parents are both middle school teachers, so while they were rather boring in naming their own children, the kids who have come through their classrooms sometimes have spectacular names.

Names that the students themselves hate are usually the ones that start with "La", or are contractions of 2 other names.
Example: girls with names like LaShawna, LaToya, LaStarr, and boys with names like Timario (Timothy + Mario), etc.

I think the best one that has ever come through my mother's classroom was a GIRL named Stanley. She must really hate her parents.

Most of the students at my father's school have 'normal' names, which is not nearly as much fun! ^_^

In terms of pets, the only one I've ever had who is named after anything other than my imagination was my snapping turtle Minn. We named her after the children's book "Minn of The Mississippi" by Holling Clancy Holling (which is a book about a snapping turtle)

Speaking of schools and kids names, my bro's girlfriend works in a Nursery School and one of the girls is called 'Annie May'. You can't beat that!
I don't know if she's got bright green hair and eyes the size of tea saucers...

Well, I actually named many a pet after anime characters, without the nomen-est-omen thing though. Just cuz I liked the name.

My pink cat Souzou was named after Souzou from RK.

My other cat Katzu once stole a koi from the neighbours and as he miraculously survived (stood above god), I named him Kamui. Katzu caught him a second time though...

My lovely dog is named Touya like the one in AnC, but I sorta regret that: it sounds too cool, I shoulda chosen a cute or funny name like Titus, Ippolito or Teeco. His kennel name was Kumo.

If
I ever get a female dog (either a breeding bitch for Touya or a Saluki), I'll call her Kirara :)

I also had countless rats, hamsters and mice (like Chichiri) named after anime characters.

My mother sometimes calls me Fushigi for being a weirdo.

I usually don't name people after anime charas, but I do pronounce their names in Japanese or attach suffixes, just for the fun of it: Yo-chan (Jonas), Ge-kun (Gert), Bimu (Wim), Sorenji (Solange),... I love the Sorenji one.

As for my own name, I'm Anna Miryam. Anna the gifted, and Miryam, the crybaby. Both true^^; I was born in Tel Aviv, so guess it actually refers to "Anna Maria" or some other holiness.
