The Official Ban Request Thread

Hi,

I noticed quite a few galleries that have scans of artbooks and mangas. Is this allowed on Rs? Just curious. Thanks.

Per the FAQ:
Can" class="bold plain" rel="nofollow">http://www.rubberslug.com/resource/faq.aspx#3-7

"
Can
I post artbook scans, manga scans, postcards, etc.?
No. Objects that are not original studio-produced originals are expressly forbidden on the site. This is the one really big rule here. Rubberslug doesn't make enough money to handle a lawsuit from a copyright holder who "just doesn't get it". You can provide all the disclaimers you want, but at the end of the day, it's ALL sites that will get shuttered, not just yours."

I use copyrighted graphics in my banners and site graphics? Like from a video game?
Here's how it works: technically, you're not allowed to have copyrighted art on your site. If you're using one or two illustrations in a banner graphic on a non-commercial site, it's unlikely you'll get in trouble. If you post a scanned collection of every artbook you own, it's far more likely you'll get in trouble. (And not only from us.) "

I've got (as banners) some non-cel artwork and I think that is OK per the second FAQ question even though it violates the first question. Meybe clarification from a mod would help?

Either way, if someone has a gallery of artbook pages (or probably even covers) I'd say thats way not allowed, but I don't make or enforce the rules :)

Thanks for your response. Yeah, I thought you coudn't post that stuff but I see many, many galleries with it, not in banners but sections on their site. So, should I be the bad guy and list all of them, some suprisingly enough are very active members, Or should I leave it up to the mods for the search?

Please point out which ones you've seen. You know we Mods get a lot of the "He/She does it too-- then why can't I?" excuses when rules are broken.

I am not really asking anyone to be a "snitch" or anything of the sort, but these "Monkey sees, Monkey do" excuses really beg for some additional corroborating evidence.

If people are putting up "un-signed" scans of art books or manga sheets, make a note of it here. We play no favorites, albeit our "Big Brother/Sister" eyes are not always scanning everyone's site for misadventure (at least I'm not-- anymore).

Thanks for your enduring cooperation!

"I thought the biggest giveaway was the copyright information on the bottom. ;) "

That's a seperate layer from the actual art (you can see a shadow around the especially white area; there'd be no reason to add a drop shadow, as it wouldn't improve the look, and if they were using photoshop to the extent of adding a drop shadow, I'd think they'd color correct the white). And I have plenty of OPCs with copyright info on them; notably WB Studio Store stuff as an element of the WB seal, but a Beany and Cecil cel I have has a handwritten copyright notice on it as well.

I still don't think it is a production background, but it could be.
