Transformer Cel Warning
oh my point after that rant is just stick to what u can see if its not in the show or movie dont buy it if its in the extras well thats an exception to the rule but if u just stick to what u know and wait it out for a cel to hit the stores (ive waited over a yr) something will come along and u will finally own something that 95% of people wont contest. Ofcourse u will come under fire if urs doesnt match up with the movie and unless u can match it to any propoganda people will doubt u and personally i dont blame them, if the cel looks nice and u didnt pay too much for it (personally to date i have not paid over $150 for a cel) then fuck it u have a nice cel that looks great and unless people want to knit pick it or u want to sell it then it should not be a problem.

Every G1 Transformers cel that my husband has (which isn't many, but hey..) suffers from Toei-like fading, so it definitely wouldn't surprise me if they did have a hand in the production. Do even the best cared for Toei cels have the seriously bad fading? I haven't owned many in my time (just a couple of original DragonBall cels awhile back). I'd imagine you Sailor Moon fans would know better than anyone.

There's definitely line fading / line browning on TF cels. Toei didn't do all of the animation for the TF series or Movie but at least for the series, most of the cels out there on the collectors' market are Toei cels.
Toei did a vast majority of the animation for the Marvel/Sunbow shows. I've heard production people from Marvel complain about how the lines for the cels were fading or bad when the cels were made, under camera they were faded and this was evidence of how these shows had this 'cheap overseas animation' that the lines were crap, Toei used cheap ink that faded immediately. Anime fans would certainly not consider Toei animation to be cheap or low quality but it's not the hand inked lines Animation animation is used to or even cels from other animation studios in Japan or Korea at the time.
The lines definitely faded and browned. I don't think it's a question of cels being stored properly not having some level of line fade. Some lines might be better than others but these cels were not made to be collectors' items, the lines needed to be good enough for the cel to be filmed and that was it.

So... Toei did do a lot of animation for Transformers, and the cels do fade without any help from owners, then. Good to know! ^_^

By the time Sailor Moon was created, the lines were done by xerox instead of by hand.
I found two clips on Youtube regarding Toei's animation process -
http://youtu.be/4MZA-ov99LU (Sailor Moon)
http://youtu.be/1_Mg8P9AmH4 (ol' timey time stuff)
None of them have subtitles. Sorry.
The vast majority my Sailor Moon cels have some line fading, and in some cases, some even came with correction layers solely because the lines were already faded before they went under the camera. While I have no clue as to how they were cared for prior to my receipt, when I compare old scans to their currrent condition, there is some deterioration. Even being properly cared for, the lines will fade over time.
