Rule Against Daily Updates?

this isn't about showing off. it's about making sure the billboard isn't abused by daily updaters and pushing for more board time for non-daily updaters.

After reading ceogbdd's post, now i just found out that Cutie updated. this is a good example of exactly what i'm talking about in my last response!

I love that everyone has such strong opinion. Personally I don't have a real issue with the regular updaters. Sure it's annoying that when I finally get the time to sit and scan a few cels on the weekends, and my update gets bumped all too soon I may get a little frustrated, but......I don't really care about the publicity. I collect for me and I have a gallery to display the artwork so that it doesn't get lost in time.
When I do look at the rubberslug updates I always check back through to the last one I saw the previous visit. That way I see all regular and irregular updaters.
But that is just my two cents.

This topic seems to crop up every year or so. Personally I don't mind people updating. Everyone has a schedule that we're all not privy to and I don't think it's abuse or that deliberate. If a person has more artwork to update - more power to them. Besides quite frankly I'd rather see this site improve its search functionality and tag than worry about who's in the front. I think there'd be less worrying about that if people felt that their treasures are easy to find. I feel more badly for those who have obscure series and have NO "tag" to search by. I myself hardly look in the front page and go straight to searching because then I can see what I'm interested in. Now for exposure purposes - what would be nice is a "related" tag by maybe by theme. Also I like the idea of separating cel and sketches in the front page but again that's minor I think compared to the other updates RS needs.

BTW - even a time limit won't work that well. If everything is linear then one could simply re-update again and it would just make the queue longer. It'd be the same problem plus a lot of waiting for those who like to see themselves on the front page.

Well, let me put it like this - What if everyone decided to update like these five people? What if 10, 20, or 50 members on this forum decided that they were going to start updating daily with 1-3 items each? Now, save the featured image, no one's gallery will stay on the main page for more than a couple of hours, at best.

All I'm asking for is some common courtesy, like perhaps limiting the daily uploads to maybe twice a week. I'm not asking for the system to be reworked so that everyone gets the same amount of time, I just would like the same 5 people to be considerate of the other people who use this forum, and perhaps batch their "1 item per day uploads" so that they have several items to show off 1-2 days per week.

I don't have a strong opinion, as checking the RS updates is not a daily habit for me. But my way of adding to my gallery is a bit in line with what CB suggests, in that I restrain myself to about six updates a year. Most of this is based around collecting a critical mass of stuff in my SMJ storage bin, then asking for it all at once. But things I pick up on the side from Mandarake or eBay or private sales also go into "the bin" even if I have received and scanned them, rather than going up at once.

When I have all my stuff, and it's time for the update, I close my gallery and upload it as I have time. I tend to be a neat freak and make sure that the animations and links all work, and that I have some "teasers" of new arrivals on the home page. When it's all up, then I reopen and post an announcement on Beta.

That way an update feels like something special rather than the daily job of paperwork, which I do anyhow. That said, the people who update more regularly are not really "in my face" and so while it's not my style I also don't see it as a major peeve. For those with the money and time and continuing incentive, ganbatte!
