Rule Against Daily Updates?

If you really want to take care of this and think this is a problem just ask your fellow collectors and the administration if they agree to do away with the pictures of the updated things in the galleries and just have the the banner of the gallery updated come up at the main page like it was before, end of story. Personally, I don't mind either way.

"I doubt there will ever be a rule as to updating but I remember long ago something being said about sponsers being on the front page longer than those that weren't."

Yeah, back on the old site, sponsors stayed up longer than non-sponsors.

There were 6 spots, right? So, let's say that the layout was something like this (newest to oldest):

N3 - N2 - S3
S2 - N1 -S1

Then another gallery comes along with an update. Regardless of the status of the new gallery, the oldest non-sponsor update is going to be knocked out first.

So, like:

S4 - N3 - N2
S3 - S2 - S1

Quite a few people were sponsors, though, so it didn't make too much of a difference (unless you weren't a sponsor, of course).

I don't think the new site has anything like this, though.

Firefly, if it were as simple as reaching a consensus and then asking for the change(s) to be implemented, most of the real problems with the new RS would be fixed by now.

While I do find it annoying to always see the same galleries on the front page, the effect they have on me is to make me ignore them completely. I don't really care for the new trend of everyone only updating 3 items at a time, but then again, I just turn thumbnails off on the main page. Everyone should realize that if you turn the thumbnails off, the old list of sections updated returns ^_~. It doesn't change the fact that some galleries get pushed off the main page rather quickly, but it does help defeat the purpose of those updating only 3 items at a time.

I think some of the real bugs on this new site need to be fixed before we even talk about new rules like this. How about being able to empty the trash? Or maybe GIF uploading? Or, what about bringing back even half the old search capability? To me, those things are more important than squabbling over who is on the front page for too long/repeatedly.

Just my two yen ...

I like to keep things simple and I do know that it is a bit more complicated than that but if the constant updating is to showcase only 3 pieces of art at a time per update do away with that feature and have only the bannner show up.

Like I said, personally I don't mind either way but it is a suggestion that the community can take or leave as well as the administration.

I may be one of the people referred to by the original poster, so I'd like to say a few things.

Almost everything I put up on rubberslug has a screencap. Screencapping can be a long and tedious process. I do this during the wee hours of the morning, and when I've done a couple, I've used up the night. So I post them.

It never remotely occurred to me that this might offend someone, but if it does, I'm sorry, but I'm not going to pile a bunch of cels up just so I can upload them weeks later in large batches. You may see this as a plot to control the front page, but I see it as a matter of efficiency.

The longer I wait to upload, the more likely I am to forget to say something about some aspect of the cel or the screencap. So I suppose I could write down comments and place them alongside my pile of waiting cels...but maybe you get the picture: I don't want to do it that way!

I received a shipment of cels from Rinkya a few days ago, and I've been putting them up in batches of one, two, or three. I have only two left, so you can breathe easily, because I won't have any more to put up for awhile. Of course, I might get something from Mandarake, or on eBay....

This is one of those problems that really isn't one, in my opinion. If someone has something to post, I'd rather see it sooner than later. And I'd rather see it on the front page than buried deep in some large upload. I gather that I'm in the minority, however.
