Rule Against Daily Updates?
i tend to agree with Cutie on this one. as much as i love sifting through all the new artwork, people who go months (like many others, including myself) or even weeks get pushed off the page much too early. That includes RS site sponsors.
it's gotten to the point that i don't see and am not aware of any other gallery updates from other owners any more. i literally have to dig through our site via the ABCs and spend MORE time checking to see if an update was made rather than use the Billboard. furthermore, i am one of those peeps who get pushed off the page way too quickly because of daily updaters and ive been a long time site sponsor.
Can we change algorithums for the billboard and bring back the "old school" where RS sponsors and galleries who haven't updated in weeks and months get more PR?

I’m actually kinda happy there are people who update a lot. The saddest thing to me is when the bottom update on the very front page says 22 or 23 hours…or even “yesterday”. That never used to happen. Now, even with the handful who update regularly, I see it all the time during the weekdays…
Though I suppose I can’t really complain about it…since I haven’t updated in years, myself. I’ve just been enjoying the scans of others’ collections.
I feel that both sides of this topic have a legitimate argument. While it's great to see new art always updated, there does seem to be those who abuse the front page system slightly more than others. It's great if you want to post updates, but if you have enough art to do a daily update, would it kill you to wait a few days in between each update so those that do rarely update manage to have some time on the front page? I've got a backlog of stuff to post, but I try (well, try my best) not to do too many updates, and at least wait a week in between each to do a theme update. (Unless I get a cel I'm really excited about. I'll admit to posting up something a little quicker than I should have in regards to a last update, but I didn't do it cynically. ^_^U). But Cutiebunny is right, there are some people where it's obvious that once their gallery is pushed off the main page, they update one more piece of artwork to get it put back on top. It's kind of like how a forum works. It's common courtesy not to keep bumping your thread to the top, and if you do keep doing it, it's considered spamming. Of course, new updates aren't spam, but you have to add in the respect factor. I feel bad to see galleries bumped off the front page within 4 hours of them updating. I think if you want to keep doing small updates, waiting about a week to do each isn't so bad in regards to letting other galleries get the spotlight.
I’ve noticed that a couple of the frequent posters, post around the same time each day. I guess that’s when they have the time to do so. And I’ve seen all of the frequent posters update while their own artwork was still on the front page. I know this, because I’ve had a fascination with how “old” the front page is for a while now; so when it‘s very “aged” , I check back as often as I can.
I think the last time the last front page listing left in under six hours was on a weekend…and only a couple of the posters on the front were the regulars. Most were semi-infrequent posters, though some of those were posting one piece at a time, probably posting as they had time in the day to get the artwork scanned and ready. Of course, with others posting as well, this moved them up and down in the list…
Maybe some kind of queue could be made up whereby if the last listing is 8 hours old or less, the frontpage would stay the same for that time? That way, people, regular up loaders or not, would be sure of getting that long on the front? I don’t think it would be activated all that often, despite the fact that that would have been ridiculously long in the old days, when a stay on the RS frontpage was frequently less than 2 hours! Right now the bottom listing has been up for 10 hrs.
I like to see the new things, from any and all of the different galleries…
Oh Look!
The front page is alive now! And on a Monday, too!
One not-recently updated gallery, two of the regulars, and three new galleries (under six months old).
And, the last listing is only seven hours old…
Maybe this thread has inspired more people to update? I think that would be wonderful!

As a site sponsor as of late, I'm fairly jazzed to have a Featured photo on the RS homepage. I feel like I'm darned privileged to be amongst a group of discerning collectors, which makes me feel fairly awesomesauce....plus, of course, it keeps me popping up every so often on the homepage, which I figure draws some new eyes to my gallery, and makes me feel terribly important. ;)
When I post new items - which I do with at least relative frequency, as I'm always moving things about...out w/ the old & in w/ the new and whatnot - I tend to get bumped down off the first page within a few hours. Fortunately, because I'm content being amongst the featured galleries on the main page, I really couldn't care less. It's not as though I really need the publicity! :oP
Personally, I enjoy seeing all sorts of new pieces as they're regularly updated by various collectors...sure, because anime is a sort of "secondary" area of my collecting (I'm mostly into the shows I watched as a kiddo), it takes a while before I get too terribly thrilled; but of course, it's exciting for me when a non-anime piece comes up on the main page, particularly an 80s piece, which I usually adore.
For folks who want to "show off" their gallery and fabulous acquisitions, the rotating featured gallery option does the job quite nicely - IMO, for what it's worth. Further, the option of becoming a featured gallery gives folks an add'l incentive to sponsor the site, which the site (and its admins) could almost certainly use: become a sponsor, and your gallery is placed alongside other exceptional galleries, and you get to pop up on the homepage for all to see. Happy day!!
Otherwise, the system seems to work just fine...again, IMO. Sure thing, I agree - there are a looooooooot of genga/douga updates most days...perhaps they could be split into two update sections: cels & genga/douga (not sure if this necessarily addresses your principle concern, but a thought nonetheless). But personally, I'm content with the intuitive system currently in place - certainly as opposed to some alternatives, which seem to me restrictive and troublesome.
Besides, the fact is, if people are coming here looking for something, they're gonna do a plain' ol' unexciting search - keyword pieces effectively, and they'll show up in searches.
Just my two cents...all best!
Edit: Just saw the updated post above...couldn't agree more. :) Glad to be onboard!!
