The Sales Policy Poll
The change/enforcement of the sales policy in blogs is completely rational, and I am all for it. I applaud any effort to maintain this site as a cel collector's community first, and a cel seller's stand second.
Wow. Try saying that last phrase three times fast.
The combative and angry approach originally presented by at least one of the moderators is an entirely different matter. Blanket statements of accusations typed in all caps that make no effort in recognizing distinctions within the community as a whole are unacceptable.
IMO RS has always been a user friendly site for displaying artworks and it's been managed very well.
However, over the years, I've been seeing more messages about the increasing number of rules that I have to follow in order to keep my site open and away from getting banned.
I think galleries only open to sell cels do deserve to get banned, but why are all the other galleries being punished????
So someone who's displaying hundreds of cels, but has a "for offers" section with a couple of cels will have his/her gallery banned? What harm could this possibly do to anyone?? RS has already separated itself from any responsibility in terms of transaction between members so why are the site managers freaking out?
My sincere apologies if I have missed something, but it really does sound like RS is turning into a "pay for service" site. If money is the issue then please let everyone know that's the case. At least that way the people that stay would not have to worry about getting their galleries banned every two minutes.
There is no fine line between a collector and a seller. I think collectors that have been around for a relatively longer period of time can tell the difference between a collector and a seller on any given day. So why is the matter being phrased as if the difference is unnoticeable?
That's my two cents anyway.
Well, I agree with both sides. BUT, Even though there's new policies in force...I still see plenty of galeries with FOR OFFERS sections.
Also, just look in the RS forum. PPL are posting what's for sale in their gallery there. With pricing in the actual post. Or, I'm taking offers on things in my gallery.
Tell me how this doesn't adhere to the new policy?
No one's answered the question yet wether or not offers of any kind are accepted within member galleries. Now, if a RS member takes offers for thing offsite...Then...So be it. But as long as all sales or offer links point to your RS domain, are these considered unacceptable? I know you can't post in your blog or make these sections up. That's fine, but what about taking "OFFERS" on your gallery or selling things where links point to your RS gallery? Even if you don't post about it on your main page or in your blog.
Answering this question would greatly clarify a LOT of remaining questions.
In other news...
Jason pays for this all hiself. It takes money and time ot keep this site up. I've made my $50 donation, and so has a lot of ppl. If he needs the money he can always make it a $2/mo site, but doing that would kill more than half of the galleries here. So, he has to rely on kind donations from the members.
I understand that this site costs money and takes up alot of time. I'm greatful for having a gallery on rubberslug and I do appreciate what Jason and the site mods are doing to keep RS going. I would be more than happy to make donations to the site as well. But I really want to know a couple of things.
(1) What was the reason for banning a reasonable "For Offers" section in the RS galleries....a section in the main gallery of collectors that only views a few cels/sketches in their gallery. I really can't understand why this would harm anyone.
(2) Are these rules being enforced because not enough gallery owners kindly donate money? Will the list of rules stop expanding if more people donated money to RS? or will there always be more rules as long as there are those who do not donated?
I would honestly be more than happy to donate money to the site...that is absolutely fine with me and I think that I should have done that up to this point anyways. I just never paid that much attention to it and for that I apologize.
But I'm really just tired of feeling like my gallery can get banned any day cause of some rule that was made overnight without me even knowing about it.
Hopefully I won't get banned for being too straightforward.....I kiiiiid I kiiiiiid...I joke...I joke ^_^

I think the uber "no sales policy" is so mods don't have to say "for you it's okay, for this person, it's not." It's better to just not allow any sales/offers/trades and leave it at that.
So... you can't list cels as being for sale/trade/offer in your actual gallery or blog, but you can post on the "for sale" forum and say "the following cels in my gallery are for sale/trade/offer?" Just curious.
Looks like Ms. Poe and I had a similar question. Anyone care to take a stab at this?
