Any Macross fans out there?

Absolutely mahoro, I totally agree with you. From a price stand point only I don't recommend Macross as a title to be collected, unless you are aware up front of the cost that will be involved. But I am one who believes in collecting what you like, not one show or another because of price, popularity or potential resale profit. That is why, if someone is serious about collecting Macross because of a love for it, I offered the advice I did to overcome the high cost of Macross cels. Does this advice mean that new collectors will build wonderful 100+ cel collections of Macross? Probably not. But one or two nice cels of a favorite character or scene can certainly be a treasured addition. I myself decided, for cost reasons alone, that I couldn't sustain a Macross collection as well as collections of three other shows I really love, Akira, Ghost in the Shell and Princess Mononoke. Therefore, my strategy was to pick a favorite character or scene from these shows and save my pennies for one really nice cel of each. Sure a full gallery of cels from these shows would be nice but money just doesn't allow it. But I do absolutely love the one example I have of each (well not Ghost in the Shell yet, the hunt goes on).

So it is now over three years since this thread has been created and I know the RS community has grown and with it we have new Macross cel collectors.

For those of you who are new to RS and specifically collect Macross cels or original artwork, please take a moment to comment on what got you into this hobby and Macross cels.

And for any Macross fans lurking on RS, come on out of your shell... we don't bite and we promise not to boil you in hot water, de-shell you and dip you into warm butter! Thanks! =)

Well I haven't collect any anime much less cels in about 10 years or so. But I've always like Mikimoto's character designs. I have about 15 or so cels ranging from Macross Movie, TV, M2, M+, Gunbuster,High Speed Jecy, Orguss. Then there are the AMG,Tylor, YUA, Nadesico and all the rest.

Every year when Otakon comes around I tinker with the thought of just taking all my cels downtown to sell off but then my lazy gene kicks in and you can guess the rest.

If I can get the time I'll try and post a gallery and maybe add some to the shop.

Come on everyone else if you aren't a Macross fan already watch Macross Frontier and then take a blast to the past and then watch the original tv series, you will be glad you did!! =)

Belive it or not I just found this thread -_-. I have been collecting Macross cels for years and sadly I had to sell about 35 of them during a really rough time of my life. The ones I still have I enjoy very much. I was 10 years old when Robotech aired and I just fell in love with it. I liked the characters and the mecha especially. I used to have dreams that I was flying a VT next to Rick & Roy..LOL the dreams that kids have. I do have to agree with everyone that purchasing Macross cels is definately not for beginning collectors. The prices are high and the competion is insane. but every once in a while you can find good deals on decent cels. Anyways, that is my blurb on why I collect Macross/Robotech.. I just like it ^_^
