Oh, and a few important changes to help this addition out.

1. If you have no cels in your gallery, your gallery will not open.
2. If you have uploaded something in your anime cels section that is not a piece of original studio artwork, you will be banned.
3. *Possibly* non-sponsors might be limited to uploading only a few pictures in a side picture gallery. We're trying to give sponsors extra things anyway.... but I'd hate to tell non-sponsors that they can't use a new feature at all.

Yes, I fear an explosion in the Ban Thread as well, but this should make it easier to sort through the mess.

Geez, I find it quite surprising how many people are against this new feature. Its plain and simple, if you don't want to upload personal pictures, then don't. Its opitional.

I've already seen many galleries that have personal pictures uploaded... In their main listing (pets mostly). This new option would be ideal for stuff like that.

I'm personally all for this new feature.

It is something that has the capability to annoy others due to "off-topic" updates. We understand that as part of the risks. Our reasoning is that if we give people an outlet for their pet pictures and such, it'll be a lot easier to know who and who not to ban. Also, pet pictures won't flag as updates so if anything, it makes browsing galleries faster if you don't really want the life story of the collector behind the collection. It's a compromise between people who want personal web pages and people who just want to see collections.

However, we'll probably put some sort of limit on the picture galleries though to prevent someone from uploading one cel in their anime art gallery and their high school yearbook in the picture area.

I wouldn't have a problem with it, as long as the picture gallery was somehow kept seperate from the cel galleries. For example, you mentioned that they wouldn't trigger the "updated" flag which is good, but I also wouldn't want to run a search for cels and pull up picture sections as well. I figure the risk is low, but for shows with large fanbases so that you don't see all the galleries with a series query like DBZ, it would be maddening to do a search and pull up a listing that is half DBZ toy pictures or something.

Since Jason has stated more than once that hard disk space was cheap,I don?t see how it could hurt. That is,as long as it doesn?t trigger update notices and stays clear of the search function.
Plus most collectors are very artistic by nature, I know Thrance takes some great pictures and I would like to see some more of his work! Frankly I wouldn?t mind if people used the feature to show off vacation photos or something like con gatherings, its fun to see what others are up to. Plus pet pics are cool.
I could, however, see the annoyance factor skyrocketing for ?gee look at all 347 gashapon figures I have!? Maybe a limit would be a good idea.
