The Effects of Your Cel Collecting
Hmmm, I can't deny that cel collecting is an addiction...but does anyone get "put down" or "yelled at" (in my case anyways) for putting so much money into collecting cels?
I'm a 19yr old art student with an expensive addiction, and my parents are NOT happy with my credit card bills. ^^;
But they really don't understand why or how I can keep buying these cels when I should be buying art supplies.
I tell them when I'm at school I won't have time to buy cels. which is true. And I always pay everything back and have good credit, so to me it balances out. The way I look at it is, if I have enough in my paycheck to pay for the cels and still have cash leftover, then I'm good!
Hmm, but I still get lectured...
So does anyone else have family or friends who keep asking why you buy cels and spend so much...and how do you handle it?
I think I speak for us all when I say that at one point or another, any cel collector who lives within proximity to "normies" will eventually be lectured and or scolded at for wasting so much money on production trash...
Just comes with the territory...
:)
I get lectured a lot by the owner of my local anime shop about how much I spend on cels. I think he's just jealous because he hasn't been able to buy a cel for his Tenchi collection in a couple of years...
I tend to blow off people who have a problem with understanding why I buy cels. I look at it like this; everybody has a hobby that most people don?t get. I just think cel collecting may be one of the least understood?
If collecting cels makes you happy, then no one should lecture you. Well, as long as no one else pays your bill. :P
My parents don't enjoy collecting cels and don't see why I get a thrill in it, but they accepted the fact. I've begun to slow down on collecting, so I think they're relieved. ^_^ I hide my credit card bills from my mom if I can.
A Marshallese coworker asked how much I paid for my Samurai Deeper Kyo cel one day. When I told her, she about fell over. She couldn't believe I'd pay that much for something, and said "I could buy a good watch and some earrings and a necklace for that much!" So I reminded her that I don't wear a watch, or much jewelry either, and that that cel is MY watch, earrings, and necklace. She seemed to understand that. She still occasionally gives me crap, but it's pretty half-hearted.
Oh yeah, and pretty much the rest of the office just shake their heads in wonder.
