The Effects of Your Cel Collecting

Well, to me, cels of the same character are very different from one another. It really boils down to collecting what you like. I just happen to like a few... well one in particular... characters much better than most. It's like asking "why do you collect so many anime cels? Why not collect one type of each anime collectable?" There's no real answer, the cel collector prefers to collect cels. (Yes, I know most cel collectors probably have at least a few of other anime collectibles, work with me on this analogy)

My parents are big antiques collectors, so they understand completely about the whole "collecting addiction". I never tell my parents how much I spent on each cel. They only know the price of one cel, and that was enough to have them quesioning me. But, my father has seen how well some of my pieces sell on eBay, so he figures that as long as I can recoup my money when I'm tired of collecting that it is okay.
And Weyrlady: yes, yes I do blame you for this addiction. But I take partial credit for Haplessweasel. We both did our share in that conversion. ^_^;

Maybe we should have a new title for people who get other people to sign up. Like "minion". Not quite a mod, not quite a moderator, but an evildoer nevertheless.

I, too, get flak about my collection, even from friends who are into anime. I have one friend who makes a comment every time I show him something, so now I don't even bother. Forget my parents, they have no clue. My stepfather is a little understanding since he collects antiques. I think my mother will never get it.

I'm really getting flak from her since we are moving & I have to "pack" all my cels away. She is complaining on how much space the cel books & boxes are & will be taking. She wants to know where I will be storing them while they are working on the house. Little does she know I am taking them with me to my temporary housing.

Recently she asked me "What do you do with these cels & why do you have so many?" I explained to her that they were different pieces of art work that I enjoy looking at. And that I display them online for other people to enjoy as well. I also said to her, she collects/likes jewelry & I collect/like anime, same difference. This seemed to quite her down for the moment.

Now, I just keep my mouth shut to my parents & friends who just don't understand. And continue to "talk/show" to those out there who do.
