What got you hooked

I'm still holding my sides after E's post...

I watched Captain Harlock when they ran the Carl Macek (sp?) version on early morning TV years ago and tried to grab every piece of merchandise I could connected with the series but for some reason I never even knew/thought about cels. And at this point I probably should get myself some Harlock cels but think I am waiting for that really good one.

I started collecting cels after seeing Gundam Wing on Cartoon Network and realized they were actually available. After that I started collecting Big O cels, etc.

I've watched anime all of my life it seems, except it wasn't always called "anime" it was called "cartoons".

What got me hooked on cels was a Hiei cel on ebay. I'd bought a couple of cels on Mandarake on a whim, but when I saw it I immediately knew what episode and scene it was from - I HAD TO HAVE IT! Things went dark after that...the next thing I knew I was trying to think of a name for my gallery at RS.

Yu Yu Hakusho got me hooked. I had seen other titles before it, but wasn't really obsessed until it came.

I have to admit theat I was up at 5am to watch robotech on what is now referd to as fox but then it was just a 'uhf' indpendent station. Those were the days of the eairly to mid 80's and the begining of the cartoon revolution. Back befor that the only cartoons were on for an hour after school and saterday morning.

As for the cel collection it all started when I picked up a cel from 'Battle Athelets Victory' from AnimeNation about 4 yrs. back. The rest is all down hill for my pocket book

My intro to anime was courtesy of the Sci-Fi Channel's old Summer Anime Festival. For a week or two in the middle of summer they showed several anime films per day, titles like Project A-ko, Akira, Odin, and Venus Wars. Intrigued by the unique character designs and narrative style, I sought out more on the then-fledgling world wide web.

I got into cel collecting because some folks on the Anime on DVD forums showed me a catgirl cel I couldn't refuse =^..^=. Since then I've picked up a few more pieces, and am always browsing. I can't quite say "it was the death of my bank account" like most folks here can though ^_^;. Mine is a small but loved collection.
