How long, is long enough?

Well...Usually a MONTH is pushing me. Now, if the dealer/seller is in contact with you about the matter, and they have a valid reason(injury, death, head gnomes...whatever) then I would be patient about it.

On the flip side...I take payment plans for people buying expensive cels from me...And I've been waiting a year for one to finish up...and about a half a year on another...But these ppl were never in contact with me...They disappear...And THAT really irks me...I was to the point if I don't get paid by July...Like in one persons case...The deal is off and I refund their money...Or kep it as a grievance...Cause I HATE when ppl make up excuses..."Oh...It'll be this week...The bank is held up...It'll be soon". Hearing that every week for the past 4 months sux -_-!

But...I'm patient...And they agreed to a long term payment plan where they set the terms...If they break the contract...Whoops...

*sigh*...But...I'm patient with everyone...So we'll see what happens =_=

Ah well, I do wait a month until I even inquire. I'm used to things taking a while and I don't expect sellers to jump up and rush to the PO just to ship my cel.

Plus, I am heartilly annoyed by dumbasses who live overseas but don't seem to care. My main buyers for cels are, in order of frequency:

-Americans
-Canadians
-British
-Italians

A package to GB can reach anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks.
To Canada as to the US it's anything from 1 to 8 weeks.
I do NOT know why it varies so much (and neither do I care).
But only certain Americans (one out of 5 who buy my stuff) seem to think "She may live in Belgium and thus very far away, but I don't care, I expect service worthy of me!"
I get nasty emails like "It's been 3 days now and I still haven't received my cel!! I'll complain!!!" all the time...
I don't understand why, really.

I consider anyone from anywhere that receives money for goods, regardless of nationality or disposition, liable as a seller to send the goods when he, she, or it, receives money for them in a timely fashion. It doesn't always happen like that, but at least that is the general expectation. Who wants anarchistic deals involving ones own money?

It is not humorous to expect less than "service for goods paid". It is pretty cut and dry. Shipping times vary by location, that is why I usually have most of my cels shipped via EMS if they are coming from abroad. It fully clarifies the situation since a tracking code is established that can be traced independently. This simple act really helps to lower the anxiety of the buyer and frees the seller from questions about shipping delay. Often, I have the item insured for its value. I usually ask buyers to do the same, if I am the seller. In fact, the only problems that I have had is when I haven't done it.

This frees the seller from any obligation, besides packing it correctly and sending it after they have receive money in a reasonable time (So all that they have to do is to get off of their lazy behinds and go to the post office). They, the seller, afterall have received money. They are happy with the infusion of cash no doubt and with the completion of the transaction from their end; likewise they are getting paid for something tangible and real. All they need to do is pack and ship, so that is not much to expect. Putting EMS standards on the deal clarifies everything, putting a time-line on the deal. Any laziness on the sellers part cannot be avoided as anything else but neglect, that is, if they don't communicate or follow-through. A little communication goes a long way, even if they are late. Talking about the delay is better than ignoring it.

Most of the problems I see is just that communication breaks down on the sellers side and that infuriates the buyer that still has expectations and anxiety building up in anticipation of completing the deal and receiving their artwork safely.

I would never send a nasty email though,it is a waste of energy. I try to look at such a problem as as an escalating situation that could end up bad for both the seller and myself. I let late shipping sellers become aware of those things. Call them threats if you like. I call them "awareness notices" of the fact that we'll both lose in this. Not just the "dope that sent you money", oh no. This is an equation that will need balancing--One I don't get what I paid for so two, they have enforcement of some kind to deal with on their end for their apparent fraud or negligence. It is fairly emotionless. I don't like stress.

It goes without saying, that I would never send money in any form for a cel again from someone (usually a daydreaming university student) that delays and puts off sending a cel or anything else that is so sloppy with "money" or their own business.

On the flip-side there are sellers that get all bothered by people making promises to pay and never do. They have "blacklists" for this, and there hasn't even been any money exchanged yet. People on auctions do it all of the time---Win goods and don't pay.

It is interesting to note that in the seller dominated cel world, that it seems more an outrageous thing to do to make a promise and not follow through, then actually sending money and expecting to get your rightful goods in a timely manner. =)

I've sold about 12-15 cels on ebay and have done another 10 or so trades and sold another 8 cels to freind's and I've always made it a point to ship withen 48 hours of payment... unless it's check (my bank I call my bank every other day to see if it cleared. sometimes every day).

I pretty much only ship by priority mail with insurance unless otherwise stated in the agreement between the buyer and I.

Sometimes I'll include the insurance out of my own pocket if they didn't want it just to be safe.

and if It's an expensive cel I've upped it to express at my cost with insurance and tracking.

I even send an e-mail the buyer after 5-7 days asking if they recieved the cel and if they like it.

I don't see how a "seller" or "trader" can be called such without making sure that the needs of the person on the other end are met.

Can anyone let me know who this deadbeat is so I know not to deal with them?

I'm sorry to hear that this has happened and I wish you guys the best at recieving your cels. I have no patience... I mojst likely would have threatened a lawsuit or going to the FBI or whatever after a month and a half.

Take care and I wish you all the best.

Joe
