To quote someone, enclose their text with the following brackets:

...except WITHOUT the periods. I had to put those in or else the forum would automatically think it's a quote and quote it for me.

The above should render like so:

I need to redo the message formatting for these forums. The whole gray and orange thing doesn't really seem to be the ideal message-reading environment.
