"featued gallery" improvement

I think that E makes a good point. There are some collectors that have rounded out thier collection or don't need to add to it anymore - that shouldn't be "punished" (if you want to call it that) for not updating or logging in. Or collectors that update every few months, or every six months. I think that if you did it the way you suggested, that I'd be seeing 1 DBZ featured cel after another. ^^;;;

An example of a featured gallery is Morgan's Escaflowne gallery. She has an amazing Escaflowne collection, and seeing that Folken cel of hers pop up in the featured gallery rotation always reminds me to visit ^_^

So those galleries are doomed to stay in the dark with your idea. :/ Not only are they not updating frequently/at all - but they aren't listed in the featured gallery thing.

I think it should stay random. Though, I wonder why I seem to see the same few over and over. Sometimes I'll refresh a few dozen times to see what I get, and some show up soooo many more times than others. But it also depends on the day....

"But it also depends on the day...."

Hey, that makes me think...^-^

Why not rotate alpha-and numerically and progress through the alphabet with a set block of galleries to be seen per 24 hours.

For example;

Start with A , B, C, etc. (and set a range of so many galleries per day) Of course some of the alphabet sections contain more, less, or no entries (example D...has tons due to Dragonball, while X currently has none at all.) This will have a varying effect on the progression, but perhaps moving in this direction fairness and balance can be maintained.....I don`t know if that helps or not.

Rotations:

Too hard for too little payoff. The random number generator (should) already give equal distribution. The question is if non-equal distribution of some kind is the right way to go.

About the huge number of DB features:

I really like series that aren't that prevalent in the rotation. Those are the ones that really stick. A few of the ones I remember doing include X, Ranma, that Folken cel you mentioned, Vampire Hunter D, some retro looking giant robot show, and Tenshi ni Narumon. Out of those anime, the only one I really like is Escaflowne. But I liked all of the *cels* a lot. They were interesting cels -- either really detailed or framed in a unique way.

I still think participation is important -- you don't have to upload cels to participate. You could post on the message boards or add info to the forgotten "resources" section of this site (which is also in need of serious overhaul/boosting). Later, members will be able to participate by giving commendations and FMBs* to their favorite galleries (curators can turn this off) and buying/selling.

Limiting features wouldn't lock out people who haven't logged in. (not sure if that's what I said, but certainly not what I intended to say.) It would work like a lottery. Someone who just logged in would get more tickets in the bucket. (say, 5) Someone who hasn't logged in for 3 or 4 months would get fewer tickets.

How do you reward variety while letting everyone get a chance? Maybe I can attach a bonus to people who submit from something "different" (i.e. - double/triple tickets)?

The danger is turning this into a contest. I don't want that, but there do need to be differentiators. K, back to work for me.

note: I'm pretty sure the random number generator works just fine (at least, as well as it can work). I've got no idea why it likes certain numbers on certain days if that's true.

I remember somewhere seeing that your allowed two featured gallery pics. I was just wondering how many are allowed? I could swear Ive seen a tad few with three but maybe I just forgot what the other images where and added my own mental ones in.

Everyone is entitled to one feature image. An additional feature image spot may be granted based on arbitrary things like participation, seniority, and other things which are probably unfair. It's the one place in the site where I feel free to exert my evil powers of admin favoritism. If someone submits something "interesting" (not necessarily from a show I like, see previous post), then I'm likely to ask for anything else they'd like to post.

Exactly one gallery has three (yipes, you must have been clicking for a while to find this out), but the owner created her gallery on day three or four of this site.

Personally, I only have one. =p
