1st AnimeCel, Shampoo, help identify...
Hiya Leah,
Klet is right, Russell over at Intenseanime has backing boards and a alot of cel bags in all sizes,If you don't see them on his site email him about them,he goes though a bunch of them and may be out of stock,But he gets them all the time.
The best backing board to use is the plastic ones but you can use the cotton or paper ones if they are acid free, I have seen some folks use matte boards but they are kind of thick to use.
What you want to do is put one board in each page, You can leave the black page that comes with the storage book in the page, All your trying to do is keep the pages from bending when you turn the pages.
The bending can pop the paint off the cels after a time,It also causes the black lines to come off the cel on the front of the cel, On most cels the black line is a powder toner and is melted on the front of cel in A xerox copier, This powder will come off in time if the cel is bent back and forth enough and this is what is known as line loss on your cels, This is why you should keep your cels flat at all times.
If you look at your cels you may see a gold or redish line that is left,This is the burnt line that is left after the melted on toner comes off.
In the studios this line is sometimes replaced if it comes off with a fine line black marker I have seen lots of cels that have this done to them and is commonly done by all studios when needed to save redoing or printing more blank line cels for painting.
So if you see a cel with this done It does not mean someone touched it up, It may have been done in the studio at the time of shooting to save time on the production.
I hope this helps some.
Roy
