autographed cels

I'm curious about people who get their cels signed by their creators or artists. What's their reaction to this? I mean it's one thing to have a poster signed but an actual production cel! So far I collected cels for nearly 3 years and I would love to personally have one of my dragonball or lamune cels autographed by the original artists. Also, does it affect or damage the cel in any way?

I've heard both sides of this argument. Some think it significantly raises the value of the cel others think it trashes it completely. I've had 3 signed cels one was a Spawn cel signed by Todd McFarlane I sold that one to a collector, not of cels but, of signatures. I had the Urd cel signed, but that was a very cheap cel, so I think the worth of that one is in the signature only. For the Millennium Actress cel it is signed on a clean sheet of acetate overlaying the actual cel. I think that way is best, it gives you the best of both worlds. Plus getting cels signed is really fun!

I might be in a position for Andrew Francis to sign my Dilandau cels, seeing as he lives in Vancouver and all. This might sound like a stupid question but do you think i should have him sign some of them or not- or maybe do what you said and have him sign a clean sheet of acetate?

It's just I dont want something like a signature to decrease a persons opinion of the cel or anything. I dont want it to detract from the cels quality. I suppose in theory the price would go up, but for something like this ppl usually prefer to have the original animators or japanese voice actors sign em or something.

Acetates not a bad idea. If that's the case I'll see if I can get the actors/actresses to sign them as well. :)

I think it all depends on personal preference of the owner, and WHO signs them.

Let's say I wanted to get my Slayers cel signed. I'd go for (in order) Creators: Hajime Kanzaka
Rui Araizumi, Voice Actors/Actresses JAPANESE ONLY.

See, if say.. oh.. Scott McNeil signed a cel of Duo Maxwell, I personally would feel it was fit only to line the birdcage.
