I have total respect for the creativity that goes into making the animation artwork so I'd be thrilled to have a piece signed by the artist, or the director/designer of a series/movie.

Like E says, it's worth pushing a little bit more for a sketch and/or some personal comment because such opportunites don't come around twice.

You live to regret the things you DON'T do, rather than the things you DO do.

I've thought about this and if I were confronted with an artist I really respect who offered to sign something and/or do a sketch for me, I think I'd bawl like a baby, or at least loose some composure like a little girl ;) I'd hate that.

There are people who oppose having artwork signed because their interest lies in the final piece of artwork only. A signature would detract from the item.
Personally, I can't identify with that way of thinking because it's only a bunch of lines and colours that has come out of someone's head and hand- to get the piece signed directly reaffirms that connection.

I'd suggest to other collectors that if they're fortunate to get anything signed in front of them- GET A PHOTO OF THE EVENT. Even if you have to steal someone elses camera and get them to email you the pic[s] later.
When a friend got a poster signed for me, he sent a photo too and it left me speechless. It's irrefutable proof of the moment and acts as a constant reminder of that wonderful experience.
