As a matter of fact i just remebered, Jason @ Overdrive is living proof that sometimes having a wishlist does work. Also, in the past year alone, I think I've aquired around 3 or 4 from sellers. Its good to have a reminder of which cels keep you from quitting cel collecting.
I think it depends how specific you are in your wishlist and your reasoning for having it up. I have been approached many times by dealers or other collectors who offered me something off my wishlist, however I doubt it was because they saw my wishlist and more because they know my general collecting tastes and knew I'd like it.
Personally, I use my wishlist more as a general keep-track of things I'm looking for and ordering them, as well as a page to view some of my favorite scenes and images in one place. Not to mention I simply adore using my screencap program.
As fsr as utility goes, my wishlist exists online primarily for those people who want something of mine. I don't accept monetary offers on my cels unless explicitly stated, however I will always entertain trade offers. My wishlist is there to assist those people who see a cel on my site they feel they must have. You want a cel of mine? Find me something I want more. That can't be accomplished unless they have a general idea of what I want more... thus the wishlist. And for the record, yes, it has led to several successful trades.
I suppose someone could see something on my wishlist and decide to jack up the price. However most of the things on my wishlist already come with a huge pricetag, and I'm sure anyone who owns one is well aware of it. Besides, if I've put it there, I'm generally saying that in the sea of amazing, glorious, wonderful cels from that show or of that character, these are the ones I will pay MORE than the expected market dollar for (in my opinion, that is... there may be bigger nuts than me).
Also, having someone offer you a wishlist cel, even at an inflated price, is still better than not getting offered the cel at all. I am still free to say no if I think they are being totally unreasonable, which I have in the past. Still, I'd rather someone give me first crack at something, even at a high price, than have it offered elsewhere for a lower price.

Remi ^_^
