Just wanted to give an update of the exhibition opening entitled "Elle", (i.e.,ladies) (Feb. 13th)... Some photos will come later, but last night was a rousing success for the exhibition. Anime art was received very well, along side more traditional forms (oils on canva, black and white photography). I had some nervous moments, but when I began to get lots of questions asked, and seeing people?s eyes sparkle when viewing, it was a good feeling, after a very hectic day of setting up.
I was surprised by the amount of people that showed up. Maybe, it was the wine and dip that did it, I don't know, but the response and turn-out was very good for such a small place it was packed for hours. There was nothing but positive comments, but maybe that is the "polishing apple" routine that goes on at exhibitions.. who knows.
The anime art held its own though. People milled around and gave it "good viewership", for lack of a better phrase.
Maybe Jason you should really do this with RS. Have a real gallery opening--"live". I think that with a little promotion, it would go over very well. If my microcosm of an exhibition were any sign, I'd say go for it.
To regress a little bit, there was a little pre-opening problems since one of the artists from the official artists group, but not a part of the exhibition, wanted to crash the exhibition with his own artwork. This meant if allowed taking up "someone?s" wall space. Guess, who was low man on the totem pole? You guessed it, moi. But I must say that the other two artists, were against it.
I could see where this was going. Before it got silly, I agreed to give up some of my wall space to this person for the opening, just to qualm the situation. In any case, I was no artist, just a collector. This was funny later, because some people were asking me if I had created the cel art =)
In the end I only could end up putting up four framed pieces, I had brought tons of stuff, spent a lot of money on frames and mats.. And still am having something framed:(

So, I asked if I could exchange cels during the two-week exhibition.
They said yes, and so I will probably do that. My major concern was lighting and heat though. I don't plan to leave those cels there very long in any case. Although there were probably better lit areas that I could use, I tried to stay away from the track lighting as much as possible. The real artists in this were happy about that, since it seemed that they wanted to take the "best spot-lit" areas, which was completely fine with me.
I was thinking that my stuff was more valuable anyway =) Of course, I would! hehehe.
Anyway, as far as stuff up now, I went for my classic stuff for the most part:

I noticed that the hanken and GUNNM cel drew a lot of lookers... I had "Not for Sale" posted, but people would still ask me "how much?"
This exhibition and framing of cels taught me one thing-- This stuff weighs a ton! I will be having some cel sales soon.. I like to travel much lighter.
