site voting: they hated me

I'm not writing to complain about my "score" but I am writing to say that I think someone must have really hated my gallery. At 22 votes I think I was pert near close to 7.5 or above in all 3 categories but now with just one vote, I've been knocked back much further than I've ever gone forward. Just like GPA, it's difficult to increase but very easy to decrease. My guess is that they came in with a very low number in each of the categories.

Am I bitchin? Nah... I determine my own self-worth but I am curious though, the data miner that I am, to know if it's possible to see the rankings I've been given without names attached.

Nah, that would make it too easy to figure out how it works. (Even easier than it is to figure out right now.) I could put it in, but then people would see it as a downgrade when it gets removed... and I can see it being removed awfully fast.

This is why I don't have the ratings option turned on. I don't really understand why people use it. I collect cels for myself, not for other people, and I don't care how others 'rate' my collection, knowledge, graphics or anything else.

It seems a lot like a popularity thing. People who like you will give you 10s across the board. One person with an axe to grind will just lowball to amuse themself. Even if it was more institutional and objective, I still put my cels up for people to enjoy looking at them, not for them to judge me/them with an arbitrary number used to rate my success in a deeply personal hobby.

Anyway, sorry if that sounded like a rant. I just have so much trouble understanding why, in a hobby in which taste is so subjective, people always seem to want to turn it into a competition or rating.

I thought the ratings were pointless too - for exactly the reasons listed above - but then I just got hungry for feedback and figured that was the likeliest way to get any, since it's the easiest. Maybe people should be required to write a few words to justify their ratings. :p But then they probably wouldn't take the time anymore. -.-;
