Polypropylene vs Mylar cel bags

I'm still not sure what type of cel bags to invest in.

Polypropylene or mylar

I have pros and cons on both of them...

One site said that the polypropylene bags are NOT acid free or archival safe. Even if it says acid free, it only means it is acid free from the manufacturer...this is what one site said.

Then in another forum I was reading that a certain type of mylar bag caused the cels paint to chip and the lines to fade...

Now I'm even more confussed...but I'm still swinging towards the polypropylene bags, because thats what a lot of people use...

anyways...any thoughts or ideas? And what type of cel bags do you prefere?

Thanks! ^_^

I must admit I don't know a lot about cel bags but I'm used to similar bags for storing comic books. I tend to use Polypro for general comics and Mylars for the best of the best. Again, I don't know how the cost of cels bags compare but as for comic bags, Mylars are 10X the cost which suggests they are superior.

As you suggest Priss, the Polypros aren't completely acid-free and I wonder if the problems with Mylars is exaggerated.

Mylar bags *will* stick to your cels and lift linework - I have seen it happen. Poly bags just get wrinkly where they contact the paint. As far as being "archival" or not...the paint on the cels is outgassing so much in relation to anything the bag would do that it makes the bag's contribution insignificant. Go for the poly!
