zen.

I think that if you get enough points, you should be able to hire pirates to storm other people's galleries to make off with their best cels.

Hire ninjas, they're quieter. You know all that "Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum" nonsense, and rattling of sabers. Ninjas - in quiet, snatch the goods and out like a cat.

Ninjas all the way!

Here's a challenge: list everyone's point total on a sheet of paper and try to figure out which seven factors I used to calculate these. I tried to weight the amount of stuff in the gallery the least since some of our fine citizens here have in excess of 1000 cels. Age (in days) is second least-important. I think the most important thing (I did this last night and already forgot the formula) for the moment is rating each other's galleries.

In general, the things that will be worth more will be things that require members to interact with each other. Think of it as a sitewide icebreaker with 750 people.

They're not calculated on the fly yet, because I'd have to integrate it into practically every part of the site so I just run a script that calculates it for everyone really quick.

I haven't yet put in a bonus point system, but once I do the moderators will be able to randomly award some small number of points for... um... something. They've been asking me for "good guy" features for a while and I feel bad that I just ask them to be mean to people and they don't get to do anything cool or fun with their powers.

Unfortunately, they're not really *good* for anything yet. As I mentioned in the "points" thread though, I'd like them to eventually be good for something.

Oh,
and by the current point system, I think reaching 1000 points would require some mind-bending amount of time spent with this site. If someone manages to get 1000 point in some legitimate way (i.e. not just making 30,000 one line posts :) ) then I'll send that brave soul a gift of some kind.

By the time that happens, I'll probably know what the gift is.

Just ran some quick numbers. Fun little stats. 20 members closest to obtaining Nirvana as of May 2, 4:30 AM:

Flippy - 641, noisywalrus - 577, linda - 495, monkeyboy - 464, Echo - 429, Twistyblue - 380, mjwilson - 375, Shadowcat - 367, tokyoanime2 - 362, celhunterj - 357, E - 350, saiyanwolf - 330, felicity-chan - 328, Gabriel - 326, Rheytarian - 325, jlbair - 291, Foechadan - 386, vapalla - 283, pogo - 264, grEenLeaF - 262

Why do I not lead the point totals on my own website? I have no clue. Maybe because I never post any cels. Ha.

I don't really see a common thread. Most people over 300 either have a) several hundred pounds of cel books, b) have accounts that are 2+ years old, or c) rate a whole lot of galleries. Celhunterj who owns http://gch.rubberslug.com/ joined in June 2003 but has rated 81 galleries to break the top 10. Yipes.

EDIT: I just found out why Flipster owned me on point totals. 222 rated galleries. It gets better: Tokyoanime2 has rated 241. Echo has 238. Monkeyboy has 225.

Wow. I have 56. I totally suck. I must admit, that is pretty inspiring. I had no idea you all had that kind of interest. I'll try to work on the site after a quick nap.

Ooooo...Nirvana sounds nice *_*!

And the rating of the galleries...One day...I sat down before the Ratings page was put up on our personal pages...And went through EVERY gallery on the site...Found ones that needed to be rated...And did it @_@~! That took a few hours ^^;! But now I check every day for a new gallery to pop up that I haven't rated yet ^^;! As of right now...I've left no galleries unchecked ^^;~!

This is gonne be fun *_*!
