the dragonball effect
Dragonball and it's different follow up series have had a major effect on helping to raise awareness of anime to a broader audience in the USA.
It has been the starting point for a lot of those who help fuel the current anime boom.
I think most of the turn off's to Dragonball, Dragonball Z and Gt are due to the heavily edited versions that were aired on American TV.
In a lot of the episodes so much was cut you lost track of what was happening, you just saw the same fight scene over and over several episodes.
Getting to watch some of the new unedited dvd's has shown how truly butchered they were.
The same can be said for Sailor Moon, Card Captor Sakura and Battle of the Planets which are all being reissued on dvd in uncut forms.
It is interesting that you should comment on this old thread, they have just recently started re-runs again of DBZ (again!!) in Japan. And I don't know if you gamers are aware, but there is also a new DBZ/GT game on PS2--again!! So, it makes you wonder..
