the fancel question

that's one of the things that pisses me off about fan cel artists, is that they will list their fan cels on eBay and *NOT PUT THE WORD FAN CEL IN THE TITLE*. a lot of people just skim the description part of the auction and go to the picture, then bid. i know that it's their fault for not looking at the auction description, but as a seller you have to know that they probably aren't and take the extra step to make sure that they know, i.e. advertising it for what it is in the title of the auction.

also, i know that when i click on an auction title that says just cel and not fan cel expecting to find a cel of that character from that show and i find that it's a fan cel, i'm even more pissed, and definately more likely to never buy from that seller or recommend them to someone looking for a fan cel. if i wanted to see a fan cel on eBay i'd look up "fan cels," and when i want to find a cel i look for cels.

I like fan cels, but I prefer that they be original in their own way. I've only bought one fan cel, and the thing I like about it most is that it doesen't look exactly like a screen cap. I can understand the price issue also, sometimes you just can't afford the real thing and a fan cel is the next best thing. Is it right to copy another's work and make a profit....not really...

Well have chime in,

I will by Reproduction cels from a company but at auction, I want to clearly say Not Production.

I like Fancels as it is the only way to own some cels with all the CG being done now. I do feel that the fan cel shold have a signature or not be something in the series. A unique touch to say not original studio art.

Some of the Fan cels/art artist today my well be your artist animators of tomorrow. This is their first works and you may be buying a piece of art from their early period.

Supporting "starving artists" to get a beloved character isn't a bad thing to do. I know from one of the artists I have commissioned that they make pennies off their work compared to all the crap the buyers sometime put them through to get the pose they want.
