I know quite a few people out there make fancels and/or illustrate or whatever. Up until about two years ago, my artistic ability was limited to stick figures. I've been *trying* to get better at having some sort of freehand/traditional art background but I don't think I'm patient enough.

yeah, i don't think i'd classify making fan cels under being an artist, i don't anyways (no offense to others who make them ;), also). i think of that more as a hobby, i'm sure that not everyone can sit down and do it, it requires patience, time, effort, etc., but i don't think that there's anything distinctively artistic needed to create a fan cel.

i've always been able to draw, though, i don't know how well i draw anime compared to others, but a lot of my anime dabblings don't get quite the same attention or effort always as other projects. i have a small deviant art gallery, if you take a look you'll know why i don't give out the url often ;):

i think that everyone should take some sort of art training during their lives, it helps open up other windows besides artistic ability in my opinion.

I suggest photography, requires artistic eyes but doesn't require artistic coordination... aside from the bragging rights of being able to shoot handheld at 1/10 or something.

Oh wait, I kinda stink at that too. Bleh. One day, I'll get around to posting the few good photographs I have taken.

I make my living as an artist. Or should I say I survive! LOL The money is never steady, but I do like my job!

As for anime sketches or a fancel, I haven't given that a try yet. Too busy spending my hard earned cash on the real thing. ^_~
