skills to pay the bills

I'm a cartoonist, which is kind of like being an artist...

Here is a very old page (circa 1998) from a comic book I drew to entertain myself and my friends. The guy screaming is based on one of my high school administrators, the other guy I just made up:

And
here is a flower destroying a city. It was a doodle that I drew in pen. Then I photocopied it and colored it with design2 markers (same with the previous comic page).

I love drawing comics and cartoons, as well as painting and sculpting (smaller stuff). When I get tired of those, I'll build a gundam model or something. I am always working on my own projects, which I share with my family and friends.

I have made money off my work from time to time, but I still had to get a joe job to make sure I can pay the bills.

Not a big deal, as long as I can spend some time each day drawing and being creative.

My advice to you is to practice, practice, practice. Then practice some more. Repeat the previous two steps. Doodle on everything, and don't feel bad if it doesn't always look like you want it to. It takes time to learn basic drawing skills, and improving on them is also a lengthy process.

I am never satisfied with my skills or my old stuff. My goal is to always improve upon my last work, and to do that I practice constantly.
