James Cameron to make "Battle Angel"!?

I have been hearing rumors since last year, but I there seems to be a buzz going on that famous director/producer James Cameron (Titanic, Terminator 2) is gearing up to make a film version of my all time favorite OVA GUNNM/Battle Angel!!, And is now in production...

Can anyone verify this?? :-P

This seems to be the most recent spin on this rumor. A summary of a Variety magazine article published two days ago:

http://www.cinescape.com/0/editorial.asp?aff_id=0&obj_id=40661&this_cat=Movies

Cameron
has wanted to do a live-action Gunm for a few years as I recall, but never had the time or the technology. I personally think that to capture the "snap" of animated action, you can't get away with using real people on wires or bluescreens. You have to use (mostly) computer-generated people. And CG people, right now, look painfully fake. (blade 2 is the most criminal of bad cg people in recent memory, latest spiderman 2 trailers or lord of the rings are good examples of current ability)

I read a quote once from a well-known special effects guy to the effect that they already have the technology to make things real as you want them, the animators just don't have the skill yet. Seems like a pretty accurate assessment to me.

The best place to go for movie info is
the internet movie data base...
www.imdb.com
the info is always reliable and in the know. i don't see this project listed at all, so if its in the works its not yet in pre-production.

"so if its in the works its not yet in pre-production"

Actually, if it is in pre-production it wouldn't necessarily show-up on a database. And if it is a secret within the confines of a self-contained deep-pocketed production company, such as James Cameron's (Lightstorm Entertainment), a lot of pre-production could go on without it going mainstream at all. (I used to work for a hollywood production company a while back.)

On the other hand, the interesting thing to me is that he hasn't denied any of the rumors ;-)
But the uninteresting thing is that whatever he is doing he is writing it.. :-o I am not too impressed by that tidbit of info.
