Rumiko Takahashi works
Hey, there has always been collectors that have been interested in her works from Urusei Yastura, Ranma 1/2, to Inuyasha. I see so many similarities of course in character designs that they all share that is very obviously her work.
Most animators are like these of course.
Takahashis work for example, have Inuyasha and Lum-chan looking very similar if you take a good look at them!
But, something that I find to be even more of a clear profile, or a sign, of Takahashi's work more than the character designs are the similarities in story relationships between male and female characters which seems distinctly a Takahashi trait.
There seems to always be a female character that is in love or angst to be excepted by the opposite male character. The opposite male lead always appears superfically uninterested in the least (i.e. Ranma vs. Akane, or Lum-chan vs. Moroboshi, Inuyasha vs. Kagome), although there is an underlying emotion that only gets tapped out of the character in near death scenarios.
It seems to drive these shows along, and seems to be a never ending search for romance to conclude between the lead charactters--
Do you find similarities such as this in other animators works? I can think of Miyazaki Hayao as far as character designs... anyone else?
Just food for thought-- anime food that is.. ;-)

Sorry, what the heck is wrong with my, grammar, spelling, and syntax!
Going down the tubes! I better get back to America and fast! I am losing it over here.
We need an editor! :-)
--there "have"..(not has!)
and Most animators are like "this" (not these!)
"charactters"-- ? I might as well have said, critters! ;p I meant characters..
jeez..
I better use spell check.. too bad they don't have brain check!
I've been lazy for the past couple days. Remember how I was complaining that I've barely seen any anime pre-1990? I sat down and watched Maison Ikkoku in a mind-altering marathon run of 96 episodes in under 4 days. (That's with still going to the office daily, too.)
Easily ranks in my top five. Aside from an over-reliance on coincidence towards the end (people in the best or worst place at any given moment), really solid characters and writing. If anything, it's prety obvious that a lot of Japanese anime creators grew up admiring Maison Ikkoku evident from parts of Chobits, Love Hina, and every other romantic comedy that lifted whole episodes from the 1986 classic.
Yeah, the lack of an edit feature is starting to get annoying, I'll try working on this right after I get the rating list sorted out.
Still haven't done feature galleries in over a month so maybe I'll start throwing some of those together.
And... people who have eyeshadow even when they don't really have eyeshadow! 0.0 *not the most clever comment of the day*
Oh yeah, people I've notcied who make things that look similar either because they're a character designer or just because of their involvement in some way. Of course, it's all highly dependant on who is drawing all the actual frames.
Some of these I know I will get their first and last name inverted because they sometimes get credited differently in American and Japanese media. Apologies.
