anime cons

I tried naming cons that I recall had more than one actual Japanese guest. No offense to the hard work that American studios do, but I'm not sure I'd want to meet Japanese voice actors, much less American ones.

I figured it would be a choice between Anime Expo and Otakon. Anime Expo always struck me as being a little on the shady side. You get this creepy feeling that the $50 a head isn't being reinvested into the con. That whole embezzlement fiasco a few months back didn't really help my impression.

Honestly, I don't really enjoy anime cons. I've already seen all the anime. They usually pick mainstream or corporate sponsored stuff. I can find stuff in the convention hall cheaper online (if I had money). Both of these points have only become more apparent since the last con I went to (2001).

Am I missing any big cons? I can't think of anyplace else $200 away that I'd want to vacation to, so...

Oh, is anyone going to A-Kon in Dallas? It's driving distance for me. I have friends up there, so even if I don't go to the con, it would be cool to meet some people.

I'm going to Anime Expo this year. It's going to be at Anahiem CA, NOT Long Beach. ^_~

I'm
gathering a group to go, a few I met online and have never met, so that's something to look forward to! A couple are cel collectors, which is a treat since most of my friends don't know what cels are and it's great to talk with someone who likes the same things!

Gasp! Ballot stuffers! Otakon jumps into the lead with a massive 55%! (Wasn't this as 20% yesterday?) I really do have to fix that. I have the capability but right now it only stores IPs and doesn't actually check by those. That's something I'm pretty sure I can fix without hurting anything.

Voters are ballot stuffing a poll about cons? You'd think they'd have something better to do with their time.

Thanks, Spinizuey for telling me where those cons were. They're both actually some distance from me (heck, the Texas ones are just as far...) so it doesn't look like I'll be going to either one of them.

There is one in my area (New England) around April(I didn't get to go to last year) that I'd like to attend this year. It's Anime Boston. Anyone going to that? Maybe I will see you there!
