Site Suggestions =^.^=

Well...I've heard a few people say it, and I think I have to agree. I'd love to be able to see how many visitor's have come to each site. Maybe post a counter near the bottom somewhere, or near the top?

I'd also love to see how many people have visited the galleries in the "Popularity" section. I'd like to see what makes them amount to such greatness =).

Also, I submitted a picture for the featured gallery section like in September, and still haven't heard anything about it being put in yet? Did my mail just get lost, or something ^^;?

Some people that have wanted their "counter" to be viewable have gotten external counters and attached them to their RS gallery (like from bravenet or whatever). I think it would be an odd comparison to see how many visitors for each RS gallery, because some people joined last week, some people joined over 2 years ago. I don't know if it will have any special weight - ya know? I think i have about 6,500 hits - since about 2 years ago... some people may have 10,000 hits by now. It depends how often they update and when they joined.

I also don't quite understand the "most popular" listing of galleries either. I honestly don't think it has changed at all since he put that section up. I can't see how Carol's Nuriko shrine could still be on that list since she hasn't updated it in ages... I guess I just expect it to change a little bit, and it doesn't. ^^;

And about your featured image thing.. I'm sure that either he recieved it (and forgot), or is waiting to do all the featured image additions in one fell swoop. He's a busy guy - so just harass him a bit and he'll get it done ^_~
Maybe he should do the featured gallery thing by a set schedule.. like post that "submissions for featured gallery images must be submitted before ??/03 to be included in the ??/03 RS update" or something. Do that a half dozen times a year or something - and that would ease any confusion, i think.

It does change - I watched Anime Jewell slowly work its way up to where it is now. The thing is, being on the top ten popularity list helps keep you there. Let me explain, as I have some insight into this. As my gallery has been known to drop in and out of the top-10 lists for volume and diversity, I can say that, discounting surges for updates, my gallery gets a lot more traffic when it is on those lists than when it isn't. More so for volume than diversity, as the diversity category is very screwy (I think it counts "sections" that have no cels as part of the total count.) Think about if you are a casual vistor to the site. The fist things you probably will look at are the recently updated galleries on the front page, and the feature. Next, you might browse the gallery listings. Well look at that, there is one for popularity! Surely a "popular" gallery is going to be a good one, so lets go visit those! All those extra visits help keep the hit counter moving. Plus, most of those top-10 sites have all been around for a while, so they had more time to accumulate hits. The same holds true for the other two top-10 listings, just to a lesser degree.

We're fixing the popularity thing. Counting by hits is a really dumb way to guess at popularity. The rating thing will be the *only* way to get on that list after we get enough galleries to make a list.

At that point the challenge will be preventing sneaky people from cheating. I'm no statistics buff, but I think I have a pretty safe way to ensure that the opinions you would trust to give fair evaluations will have more weight than a random visitor.

Oh, and I haven't done feature galleries in a while. I know I've been bad about this, it's just that I don't like doing those. I want to keep everyone happy but it's just so tedious to make those that it really drains my energy for doing anything else. After making a batch of feature galleries, I usually just veg out and watch tv or anime until it's time to sleep. I'll try to get to those sometime soon though. Sorry fort he delay

I'm glad you're doing a ratings thing. I noticed just refreshing the page will add up your gallery counter total. So...It wouldn't be too hard for someone to refresh all day and get their site advertised more on the popularity page. I really can't wait to see how all the voting for gallery popularity turns out ^.^!

Would it be too hard to keep it all fair, as you were saying, if the voting was open to the public? Or is it just going to be between all Rubberslug Galleries?
