anime beta down?

The server errors don't surprise me. They told me they suspended 10 accounts on that server to alleviate the load which tells me it was absolutely hammered, and that while beta was part of the problem, we weren't the cause. It's academic at this point. I've downloaded all of beta's files and the db and have cancelled my account with them. I'll have my new host set up this evening and will be able to start the rebuilding tomorrow.

Hosting is a damn problem, we had the same issue on FOTNS fan board begin 2011, with the server owner saying "that site drains bandwidth for massive anime download" whereas the largest hosted file was a 2mb Super Famicom rom, and some fan wallpapers that hadn't been downloaded for ages. Sounds like a commercial common selling way these days to increase pricing with "anime = download" allegations.

I'm pretty sure people would be willing to donate some money if you need it in order to secure our own VPS

Excellent idea, I do sponsor three anime websites (especially one that had this kind of server issue), would be a pleasure with Beta.
