signed cels

I was wondering..
I happen to be pretty good friends with one of the American voice actors from an anime that I collect from.
I started wondering, if I got him to sign one of them would that decrease the value of the cel?
Seems like it would to me.

As most would say , they are your cels so you can do what you like.

Personally I would only have them signed by an english dub voice actor if your certain you plan to keep them in your personal collection for most would consider it dropping it's resale value a lot.

Now a Manga artist or the anime Character Designer or Director might add to value for some.

I personally have not bid on otherwise great cels due to a Japanese VA's sig on it.
That said I'm also certain that if I ever had to chance to meet Rumiko Takahashi I would have no qualms about have her sign a Ranma 1/2 cel.

I have to agree with JWR, It is up to the collector. I have had many chances to buy great and rare cels but I have passed up on them because they too were signed ;_; *sigh*

I agree with JWR as well. There isn't much demand for cels signed by dub actors, and in many cases, it will decrease the price. Personally, I would never buy a cel signed by a dub seiyuu.

I would recommend buying a blank piece of acetate and then have the person sign that instead. That's what I did for my Pokemon cel - I brought it to AX2008 and had one of the directors sign a blank piece of acetate for the cel. That way, I could still have the signature but not have the artwork compromised. Besides, you never know what kind of ink(ie. acidic) was used in their signature...
