hand inked and xerox cels
I've been wondering recently. Do you know which shows are hand inked? How do you make the difference, between the two, anyone had the the chance to compare? And do hand inked lines fade like the rest? Well, I personally collect Sailor Moon cels, but so far it seems all are xerox, although I have my doubts about a bank cel I own of Michiru. Anyone seen SM hand inked cels since we are on the topic?
Hand-inked cels are all old cels. It's just easier to run the sketch through the xerox machine.
That being said, I don't collect series that are old enough to be hand-inked, so I don't know much else about the process--or even when the cut-off date for cels is. From my understanding, some newer hanken mono cels are hand-inked.
Some newer cels have hand inking for non-black lines (generally over the xeroxed linework). See some of the cels in my Ren and Stimpy section; the Happy Helmet exhibits the trait, as do most of the eye shots.
Awesome gallery! Interesting example for hand inking. I haven't had the chance to come across any hand ink lines, yet. But this demostrates that the tradition is not forgotten after all. I guess I'm just nostalgic about the way animation used to be done.
Yes, a lot of colored lines are hand-inked. I think anime is notorious for this process, since it makes it much easier to paint the cel.
I think in my collection, Slayers is the easiest to recognize this technique in.

You can kind of see the colored line where her hair changes shades in the back of her head. It's kind of lighter. That line is hand-drawn on the front of the cel.
