As a Robotech fan I give SC a 7.5 out of 10. As a regular movie watcher I give SC a 4 out of 10. As a RT fan I liked seeing a continuation of the RT storyline even if the story was only so-so (but after watching other anime I didn;t think the storyline was that bad, it seemed like every average anime to me), seeing the mecha again and apart from everyone else's opinion I did like the 2D artwork used.

As a regular movie watcher I did not like how the movie ended with the hanging plot points (seeing how long it to SC to come out on DVD I expect the sequel to come out in 2018). The 3D battles ARE jarring to see, wish they kept them animated like in Mac Zero or Yukikaze. I was hoping to see some ground battles on earth vs. the Invid. The backgrounds on the characters were pretty sparse. And finally...boobs, yes they are big and distracting sometimess...but especially on Ariel and Janice's bodies sine for some reason they wear the super low V-neck suits.

P.s. What happened to the special features section? It was just a trailer and fan documentary? Not even the United Nations trailer. I did not like how when the producers and HG employees discussed RT or showed clips it was only Mosepeada no mention of Macross or Southern Cross or why it took so long for SC to get back on-screen. I was on the look-out for Mokmanon the DVD...but I don't know what ya look like!

Congrats Mokman. You should do a screenshot with numbers so people know where to look.

When I watched the TSC I wasn't expecting much and I am rather glad. This new chapter so to speak had a lot to live up to following the incredible work on Macross. I suspect the reason why there was no mention or direct connection made to Macross is b/c of licensing issues, but also b/c Macross had almost nothing to do with Mospeada. Southern Cross as most of us know connects more with Mospeada moreso than Macross.

I agree w/BaronV TSC is ok for the non-purist Macross fans, but I'd add it does feel at least to myself that they are still milking the cash cow and will continue doing so for as long as they can.

Do I think TSC as a whole is worth watching for newer fans? No. Simply put this new chapter doesn't add anything substantive or remotely innovative that wasn't already done in Macross and certainly not in Mospeada or TSC. Character designs aren't great 4/10, mecha and battles are at most a 5.5/10, cel shading is not very good 4/10, animation wasn't great for movie 4/10, music 3/10, and the character development/plot was somewhat dull and predictable 3.5/10. IMO if you haven't seen TSC you aren't missing anything, watch first or rewatch Macross TV, Flashback, Zero, and Plus before going out to buy TSC.

Just my ten cents.
