In case of FIRE.
Sugarflower,
When you add a cel to your gallery , there is a place to record the price you paid that is only viewable to the gallery owner in manage cels.
One of the side benefits to having an online gallery is I can use it for insurance purposes as well as can compare what I paid with the current going rate on dealer sites for simular cels. Even if you have not kept the receipts, you can get an idea of current value by checking dealers , ebay , Mandy & YJ for simular and the going price.
In my own case , with all the stuff I have collected over the years not just cel related. I have a blanket insurance rider on my homeowners insurance. Renter's can get a simular one.
As far as cels not lasting, in talking with the pro's at S/R Labs. Cels will last quite a long time if taken care of. They handle cels that are close to 90 years old that are still in good enough shape to command high dollars. Heat and UV rays do the most damage as well as the damage that can be caused by piling weight upon them. I myself keep mine in cel books stood on end in a cool area.

Sugarflower:
I find it is good to keep all supporting documentation I possess and associate it w/scans or digital photos of the items purchased. I create movies of me opening the said packages (for insurance concerns if it appears damaged upon receipt). Also I burn all of that data onto a dvd and keep the copies scattered with trusted people.
If you've throw away in the past your supporting documents, try to dig through your emails and reprint them OR zip them OR create a MS Outlook PST just for them and then burn the cd/dvd.
I personally do not rely on the RS online gallery for insurance claims re: fire/theft and the like. IMO from a legal perspective none of the information on it is subjective and most importantly, it can be altered. That's why I do the previously detailed steps, to ultimately cover my assets.
Just what works for moi.
