American Animation Art

I have come to the realization that american companys are not working on "cartoons" any more. Disney is aboout the only one producing full length films. Every so often UA puts one out as well with, more and more being done by computers. If you watch on Saterday mornings the WB has a lot of anime titles I cant say for the other networks my nephew wont let me watch them when I get up.

As far as CG work goes yes there is sketches and other things along that line but I feel it's just not the same. It's kinda empty knowing that their is no cel that goes with that show or movie. I guess I wish in my heart to keep a small part for my self and to share it with others. I see this happening in Japan as well. Titles comming out done completely on computer. Any way I just had to get that off my chest. I can go to bed and sleep a little better tonight.

Because I only collect Japanese animation cels (from anime) doesn't mean that I don't enjoy or love american animation. I have a whole mental list of american shows/movies that I want to obtain cels from one day.. but in the meantime I'm collecting the anime ones. I think it is because right now that is what I'm watching - LOTS of anime. I see a new anime - i want cels. It's as simple as that. ALSO, overall anime cels are much cheaper. So it becomes that inner battle "Should I get ONE warner brothers cel, or 32 tenshi ni narumon cels?" (that was an exaggeration, but you know what I mean).

I also enjoy anime artwork as well, because it has *shading*. This gives dimension to the characters, which so much american animation lacks.

When I'm older and wealthy (hahaha) I will definatly search more for my childhood memory type cels. ^_^ Like animaniacs, ren and stimpy, rocko's modern life, smurfs, snorkles, tiny toons, the land before time and one of my all time favorite shows - THE SIMPSONS! ^____^

Hear hear! Nicely put... I'd like to see some other galleries with Western animation in them as well. I know there's a lot of great stuff out there, and at the same time a lot of collectors looking for somewhere to show off the collections they are rightfully so proud of.

But... I'm sure more than a few of them have been "scared away" from joining Rubberslug because the main page of the site is so emphatically geared toward "anime collectors." It's all well and good if that's how Rubberslug started out, but perhaps if the terminology and some of the site artwork were changed to reflect more diverse collecting interests, other collectors would feel more welcome. That's not meant critically, by the way; I was greeted with nothing but enthusiasm and support when I joined, and it's great to be welcomed... but the items on the main page I mentioned can be misleading.

Cheers,

Hi, I just opened my gallery a week ago or so. It's has no anime yet, only american animation.

I've even talked to the thread starter before about Secret of NIMH cels a while back, if he remembers me.

Also,
I have one cel up for auction right now, I even made a 10meg divx file of the scene, take a look:

When
I'm collecting, I'm trying to find the perfect cel. Instead of buying many so so cels, I save up for the one great cel.

Once I do find the perfect cel, I find no need to purchase another of that character or film. Like my Jenner cel, I really don't need another, now I'm looking for the perfect Brisby cel. Same thing with the Minerva Mink (Animaniacs) cel I just got, no need for another.

Though, if I find good deals I'll buy more, but normally when collecting american animation your looking at $400+, so I like to have variety, and frame most of it.

As far as I know, HBO animation studios are based in America, and they did Spawn and Spicy City. I know a few of us collect those at least...
