Deputy Service Links
There seem to be so many deputy services out there, i only know of one or two. I was wondering if anyone else knew of any besides Rinya or Celga.
There are a few, here are some that I know of.
1. Shopping Mall Japan
http://shoppingmalljapan.com - this is personally my favorite as Nick has always been so friendly and helpful.
2. Hobby Shop K
http://www.hobbyshopk.com/yahoo.html - they are OK. Fees are ok but customer service is horrible. But that's just my experience
3. Otaku-ya Deputy
http://otaku-ya.swee.to/ - never used them but I've heard from several people that they are good
4. Rinkya
http://www.rinkya.com - fees are insane (expecially bid war fees), but otherwise professional
5. Celga
http://www.celga.com/ - Only place I know where you can get your own YJ ID for a fee. Heard a mix of good and bad things about them.
That's all the ones I'm familiar with. I know there are a few more out there so I hope someone can add to this list. :)
I highly recommend Shopping Mall Japan. In the past I had dealt with Nick when he used to sell cels through Anime Chaos, and now I use his deputy service. Extremely helpful, friendly and great service. Thumbs up.
SMJ users CHaosjapan user name, right? i did a search on that user name once.. and i think that is how i found SMJ... ive never used them though.. >_>
I use Otaku-ya all the time. Was the lowest cost service I could find. They charge less per item (on a sliding scale) but make up for it on the shipping charges to them from the original seller. You also don't have to send them money in advance like some services. Higher end items do end up with larger fees than most deputy services charge.
The service works out very well if you buy multiple items from a single source. 10 items at 500 yen a piece ends up $1 x 10 + $8 or so shipping cost (within Japan) plus whatever the shipping to you in the US would be. Much more reasonable than the $10 flat fee per auction most of the services seem to charge.
Customer service? Never really had to use it. Some of the emails they send seem rather... strangely written and unclear. Once you get used to them you (sorta) understand what they mean.
I've also never asked them to translate something, ask a seller a question for me or anything like that.
Bottom line: if you know what you want and want to buy lots of small things from a single seller, they are a perfect deputy service.
