ARGH!! So close!!

Stupid, stupid, STUPID me!!!

i miscalculated on an eBay auction and thought it ended TONIGHT and, in reality it ended last night...

to say i'm kicking myself is an understatement

especially since the cel went for WAYYYY less than i was willing to pay for it

talk about a double strike to the heart

the winner deserved it, and i don't begrudge them that

it just hurts *wails*

i know this has happened to others...it still hurts though :( in a way i didn't really expect it to hurt...

but i guess now i have a few part question:
1)I sent a message to the winner via eBay and mentioned that if ever they wanted to sell or relist said cel, I would be interested in it. Was this out of line? :S after i sent it, i got to thinking about it, and thought that might have been completely inappropriate...what's the general opinion on that to contact the winner of any cel and let them know you'd be interested in it anytime they wanted to part with it? i know it seems somewhat okay here on RS (in a polite way)..but via eBay? :| i've just never seen a cel like it, and i wantWantWANT it

2)How on EARTH do you get over this near-stupid agony of having lost out on a cel? i mean...the sane part of me says "shay! it's a CEL!!!" and the insane part of me is going "shay! it's a CEL!!!" *heh*

3)I'm sure others out there have horror stories of wishlists missed, or just great cels missed...what do you do? Contact the winner? Just hope it comes around again? What?! I'm hoping I can either find this cel listed somewhere in the future, or one like it...

oh yeah...the cel?

stupid
me :|

ahhh well...sorry..i've just been mentally cursing myself out all morning long over this...

thanks for "listening"

*hugs*

Sorry to hear about your near miss. That totally sucks, especially when the auction ends for way less than you would have been willing to pay.

The same thing has happened to me before, and yep ... it does hurt! (A lot!) So, at least you're not alone in feeling that way, if that helps a little. *sends more hugs*

The only thing that really helped me get over it was time. Eventually, other things came up that I liked as well, or even better in some cases. So, it just became OK --- but only after an appropirate "mourning period". LOL (There are some losses you never get over, though. They still sting, even after the passage of lots of time. T.T)

I don't think it's a terrible thing to contact the winner through ebay, just as long as you are nice and polite. I have gotten nice emails after winning auctions in the past, and I typically agree to keep that person in mind should I ever let go of the cel. (I keep a list of folks who are interested in specific things, just in case I have to sell stuff ... although I have to admit to being more of a hoarder. I have a hard time letting go of anything. LOL)

On the other side, I've also gotten very unfriendly emails through ebay after winning auctions --- stuff along the lines of how horrible I was for bidding on that particular auction and/or that I should sell my new win to the person emailing because they deserved it more than me. Those kinds of emails are, obviously, awful to receive, and, although I know they should not, I have to admit they really upset me at the time.

I know the email you sent to the winner was a nice one, though. I can tell, from your post, that you're a nice person. So, I think it was an OK thing to do. ^.~

I'm sorry again for your loss. I hope a sequence mate will come up really soon -- and maybe even for a better price! *sends good luck vibes*

it was frustrating, no doubt, but the blame rests solely on my shoulders for not paying better attention

though, i have to say i'm utterly shocked and appalled that ANYONE would have the gumption to demand you sell something you won fair and square simply because they think you should! that's just HORRIBLE!!! how can people be so mean! *shakes head* i honestly have trouble understanding that kind of behavior

i did try very hard to be polite and even congratulated the winner (and i was sincere, so i hope they don't take it like sarcasm or anything like that) because it's not their fault i bungled :p but i did want them to know that i was serious about an offer

thank you for the advice...i do plan on keeping an eye out for another like it...and here's hoping i can join the ranks of others who have said that they watched a certain cel slip through their fingers just to add it to their collection months or years later!!!

(ps-love your gallery...spent most of my morning today prowling it *g*)

You'll hear it often said around here that "there's something better coming your way" when you miss out for whatever reasons on something you Reeeeeallly wanted.
If you stick around long enough, it ends up being true about 80% of the time. ~_^ You'll stumble across a better shot, pose, size, what have you, and it will just fall into your lap some times.
You'd be amazed. A lot of this hobby is timing, and a lot of that can't be controlled. You can luck into being one of the first to see an update, or just happen to come across the BIN before anyone else.

But anyhooo...
Keep your eyes peeled. And as long as you're polite, there's no harm in asking.
And, there's something better coming your way! ^_^

I don't think it's out of line to email and let them know you're interested in it. Also, you might try emailing the seller and asking about sequence mates, this seller sometimes had many from the same sequence, in my experience.
Good luck! And, as the others said, something even better will come to you eventually.
