Copying Sketches...What for???

Email sent moonrabbit I hope it helps some.

You are very right Gabriel, Not only a few but most studios use both sides of the inhouse copies to save on copy costs.
Lots of the ones I have do have the same and other studios work on them.
I have some Disney copies that have All dogs paint number info on the other side and some with drawings from studios across the world from each other on the same paper.
Lots of studios farm out there cel work to other studios because they can do the cel work cheaper
than they can here in the states.
Years ago you would not have seen this but it is common now to see both sides used.
When Disney cleaned out there archives years ago they had huge truck loads of one sided copys that they used and sold to other studios for use as transfer copys, when they farmed out most of the TV stuff they did, Lots of this stuff went to Thailand, Thai Wang Film studio did most of the finish work on most of Disney's for TV stuff years ago.
They also did most of the finish work for MGM/UA and a bunch of other studios.

Now days most studios use each other to get more work done much faster than they can do by themselfs, It done like building a house lots of subcontractors are used to do the stuff they do best and for the cheapest rates.
So if you see a show it may be done by as many as 20 studios all working together to make it.

Take for example the All Dogs Go To Heaven2 movie that I have, I have seen stuff from Ireland,England, France,Thailand,Australia,HongKong,Taiwan,Korea, Canada And A few places in the U.S and a few others all used to make this one show.
At each one of these places they need to have copies of the toons they are working on at the time and they reuse lots of stuff. They don't care whats on the backs of the paper they use, They save thousands each year by using both sides of the paper they have, And this is why you will see lots of copies with both sides used and they don't have to have the same studios stuff on them.
I have Tons of these kind of copies in the boxes I have and every time I open a new box I find stuff I never thought I would see but there it is right in front of me.
90% of what I have is still in it's studio boxes unopened, I love to go out and open a few boxes and see what new things show up.
I'm going to try and do a bunch of cons next year and if you would like to see some of this stuff drop on by my booth and take a look and see for yourself, some of this stuff has been boxed up for over 10 years and no one has seen it in all that time.

You are right Gabriel newbies and folks that have been collecting for years need to be real careful about what they buy and hope the dealer is telling them the truth about the art they are selling.
It's a good thing most of these bad dealers don't last long in the biz but there is always going to be the new folks that want to cheat folks out of there money and this is very sad to say the least.
All we can do is hope for the best and be real careful from whom we buy from and most of all learn as much as you can and pass it on down to the newbies and those who wish to learn.
I don't mind passing what I have learned on to others because a happy customer is a customer that will come back and always talk nice about you to others.

Ive bought a copied sketch set.
I would love to buy more too.

For me it is just the fact that I have a shot that I want. I know in reality that my chances of owning all the shots I want are slim to none. I am a douga freak. Original or not I love them.

It just depends on your tastes ^^
