Need a bit of help :)

Hi guys,

I've already posted this on beta but figured I should also try rubberslug in order to have other's input as well.

I have a cel that has paint spots stuck to the front of it. The paint spots are from another cel that used to be stuck to it. So how do I go about removing the paint spots from the front of the cel without harming the cel?

Sorry if this was already discussed earlier....I couldn't find anything though ^_^

P.S. I would really appreciate your input as well Roy ^_^

Thanks ^_^

I've got paint spots off the front of my cels using q-tips and a bit of water.

Oh, and do your best to stay away from tracelines ^_^.

Hello Demoniac,

I have removed some paint with alcohol and a soft rag, like the inside of a T-shirt.
Make the rag damp not dripping and make sure you have a spare rag to clean up any runs of alcohol.
But be careful not to touch the lines with it.
If you hold the rag on the paint for a few min it comes off better.
Try not to rub to hard as this will scratch the cel.
I have had Q-tips scratch cels also just don't rub hard with them.
I have used the edge of a new not old pencil eraser after the paint has been wet by the alcohol to pry not rub the paint off but this can scratch your cel also so be real careful if you use one.
After you remove the paint clean the spot with distilled water to remove the alcohol film.
This works on most stuck paint but make sure you take your time and don't hurry.
I hope this helps some.

Thank you very much for your reply Roy. I actually have already cleaned up the cel with alcohol. The cel looks perfect right now....I made a few minor scratches though, but I'm not too worried about that since the cel is really old (about 20 years old I think), and had scratches from the start anyways.
But after I finished with the cel, I just left the cel infront of a fan to try and evaporate any residual alcohol left on the cel. Is that good enough or should I use water? I don't really want to use water if I don't have to since some of the paint spots were on the actual character so I really would want to stay away from putting water on that section as much as possible but if you think that it's necessary then let me know.

Thanks Roy,

Hiya Babak,
Distilled Water will not hurt your cel in any way it is used to clean the cels before they are shot on film to remove the finger prints and dust so they don't show up on camera.
But if no film is showing up on the cel that is ok to, To check hold it up to a light and look at the cel and if you see any film just blot don't rub the cel with the distilled water and a soft rag,If the paint was on a airbrushed part of the front be very careful not to rub it off it comes off very easy. blot dry and let it sit overnight until it is dry and then store it in a cel bag.
Post the cel here so I and others can see it.
I'm glad it helped.
Roy
