Hilarious to see the same people who complain about flame wars, "forum cancer", the personal life blog of complete strangers, sale ads, etc., being the ones with the most aggressive tone and, on a regular base, making flame wars worth their salt. Reminds me of a recently watched puppet movie, Team America and the little part about D's, P's and A's in it. I just love this going on and on and on. No, I actually don't.
You know what a blog is? It's a journal, a diary. And anything that isn't... racist, diffamatory, violating any copyrights, religiously or politically offensive, etc etc bladeebla, is allowed in it unless the provider of the service says otherwise and he didn't.
Personally, I couldn't care less about people ranting about their newest cel. I mean, that's what the gallery is meant for, right? Put the cel there and discuss it there. I mean, post it in your blog, fine, it's yours to play with. But don't go snivering about contents you don't like only because they're not related to the obvious. I mean, I somehow think it's boring: RS has "cel" written all over it, but its members are simple human beings with a life aside from cel collecting (I hope so anyways). "I love cels" is obvious, in what way are 100 cel-related blog entries interesting? I'd rather read about someone's cat, personally. Or their vacation. Marriage. Misadventures in particular. Anything "original". Or even use it to post fanfics! Or even telling about their fictional day out with... Tuxedo Mask, for the heck of it!
Then, there's the solution to all those little things that don't hurt if ignored: ignore the blogs you don't like! Let people write whatever they like, that was the original intention of a blog. I for one, enjoy telling little anecdotes of my life. Some may like them, others may not. But it can't hurt to post them, for the chance is that it amuses someone. I cross-posted the "party night gone wrong" on several forums and blogs o'mine and got hundreds of replies for people liked it (and it's not my only "best seller"). They either enjoyed the story, my way of telling it or were shocked by what I was telling them, but whichever it was, it was clearly worth posting and even made it into a cult magazine. I tell stories for the sake of telling them, sharing funny or weird moments, and I don't care what people think of them. I'm a talk active person, and admittedly egocentric and in love with spotlight, but I do have my little clique of fans/listeners for it and those who don't like it, well: when I don't like a TV show, I zap on!
I wouldn't deem it interesting to talk about my cels even in my blog when I have a gallery. I mean, wouldn't my blog then look like:
"Today I bought a cel I always wanted."
"Today I got a cel I've been waiting for."
"Today I got a wishlist item!"
"Today I found my cel was from THAT scene!"
"Today I tore my favourite cel *sniff*"
etc.
Well, wow. Talk about monotony. No offense, but the greatest things get boring once you've discussed them for the thousandst (is it spelled like that?) time.
I admit I posted a sale advert, but uh, how else do you get to draw attention to your sale? That cute little news section? Yay, but I think a blog entry allows for more detailed ads.
Maybe there should be a sperate sale announcement thingy or such. I do see the point of those who're against it, and I also partially share it. I understand Brian's concern that this becomes a 2nd Animanga sale and flame site (note to self: do not advert sales then. Note to certain lovelys: do not flame then). And I admit I contributed a sale ad. If there was an equally effective way to advertize sales, it'd be awesome. Also, it'd be great if one could point out which cels exactly are for sale. Maybe by marking the gallery items or such.
@tokyoanime
You forgot: "their dogs, their deviations, their crushes, their parents' emigrations,.." ;) *smooch*

*ducks* wow...didn't know the 'blogs were causing this much of a stir. I'm glad to hear that they will be returning to the front page, I miss reading the latest additions ^_-. I'm a bit guilty of the sales thing myself and I know better >_<, and can understand why the flaming could turn ugly, I certainly don't want to see the rubberslug family fight ^_^.
I see what a troll post is now, but what does that term mean exactly? The phraseology confuses me. I'm a little lost now. This thread is a snake biting it's tail, it seems.
I finally figured out A-Beta a little better. I posted my sales there XD Aren't you proud of me?
I think a lot of the problems relate back to the "monkey see, monkey do" thing I mentioned early. That, and I like monkey! Ahem, I see "so-n-so" doing "such-n-such" so I think it's ok to do it too. I'm not very bright. :(
