Howl's Moving Castle, Seen it?

Nic and I just saw The HMC in El Capitan theatre in LA and it was amazing. We waited until Sunday so that we can get to see the subtitled version.

The flyer from El Capitan theatre also said that there would be an Exclusive Exhibit of Miyazaki's art, so We were really excited but the exhibit turned out to be a joke. We were expecting to see original art but all we saw was a few screen shots on cardboard from his upcoming US releases "our neighbors the Yamadas" and "Pom Poko".
Over all the movie was great but, alot of things were left unexplained just like in "Spirited Away". When you watch these movies you feel like you missed the first half of it where they explain everything.
Has anybody read the book that inspired the movie?

Ack, too bad it's not opening locally here (not counting the invite-only "preview" showing for local film snobs) for a while.

I've seen a low-fi screener, and I think Foechadan said she went to go see it yesterday and accidentally (in a positive way) went to a subtitled showing on the east coast.

It's a really strong movie, in my opinion, stronger than the previous two. I felt like the last two movies, although winning critical acclaim just about everywhere, were heavy on technical excellence but not so deep on other aspects just like you mentioned, Al/Nic (what do you preferred to be called, I've been curious ^_^).

I thought \\Howl\\ really captured both that intangible movie magic and the power of animation as a medium in many sequences. I'm glad that Miyazaki is such a stickler about computer-assisted animation, refusing to push the bleeding edge just for the sake of it and letting the movie suffer as a result (see: Blood, Steamboy, GITS2, etc.). The vast majority of the movie is animated with a master artistry and doesn't rely on obvious, gimmicky "cel-shaded" CG or any such nonsense. The Japanese animation industry seems determined to George Lucas themselves to death lately, and it's reassuring that there are people that can still see the bigger picture. Pixar must be really scary.

In any case: highly recommended. If it comes to your town, check it out. (I certainly will.)

I saw it dubbed on Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think it is my second favorite of the Miyazaki films I have seen thus far ("Princess Mononoke" is still my favorite). I thought that Billy Crystal was probably the best voice as the fire demon character?

I did find out it is a mistake to take someone who only appreciates stuff like "Naruto" to a movie like "Howl's Moving Castle". I got to listen to my friend bitch the whole time about how he didn't like all of this "Fairytale crap". At least his girlfriend enjoyed it immensely...

I?m gonna have to see it again before it leaves the theatres. It has been one of the few anime movies I have seen in the past few years I won?t mind paying to see again in the theatre?

Some of us live in the middle of nowhere(Denver). I guess I'm lucky to live in one of the larger cities in this time zone...
